Small Business Saturday was introduced less than a decade ago as a shopping holiday to encourage locals to support small businesses in their area and according to results from the Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey, this year, an estimated 112 million consumers reported shopping at small businesses on Small Business Saturday, marking a 13 percent increase from 2015. A large evergreen can be spotted in Ellwood’s downtown community plaza patiently awaiting decoration in preparation for Ellwood City’s very own annual Light Up Night. The Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce hosts the Let There Be Lights weekend annually, typically consisting of an array of Christmas themed activities. This year Light Up Night will be Dec. 2 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. in the community plaza. Starting December 1st, Wampum is the place to be for Christmas ambiance. An old fashioned celebration, Wampum ‘Light Up the Town’ takes place on Thursday December 1st followed 2 days later by the traditional Wampum Christmas Parade. A public painting class will be held at Lincoln High School in Room T on November 20 from 1-5p.m. Ages 14+ are encouraged to attend, the cost is $50.00 per person which includes a lesson, paint, brushes, and a canvas. No experience necessary.
