On the fourth Monday of May, patrons of Ellwood City will gather in the North Side neighborhood for the annual Memorial Day Parade through town. Youth organizations, marching bands, city and state officials, fire trucks, police cruisers, and other community members participate in the parade across town to Veterans Memorial Park where the closing ceremonies are held. Memorial is a federal holiday in the United States for remembrance of people, family members and friends who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The following is a brief summary of items discussed at the Ellwood City borough council agenda meeting on Monday, May 14: Beechwood Blvd Address Added to Agenda Council member Michelle Lamenza requested a motion be added to the agenda to repeal a motion changing several Beechwood Boulevard addresses to Constitution Boulevard addresses. Earlier in the year, council approved these changes to make it easier for emergency responders to find specific addresses. Lady Wolverines Advance With Victory Over South Allegheny

The Ellwood City girls softball team advanced in the Class 3-A WPIAL Playoffs with a 4-1 first round victory over South Allegheny on Tuesday afternoon. Madi Krugh was the winning pitcher for the Wolverines. She went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two. This New Shop is Smokin’ — New Cigar Shoppe on Lawrence Ave

The Cigar Shoppe located on Lawrence Avenue had its grand opening last weekend. Steve Busby and Rich Yonlisky partnered up to create the first cigar shop located centrally in Ellwood City. The partners wanted to create a fun atmosphere where people can come and relax while smoking a cigar. Ellwood City Native Takes on Independent Electric Utilization Study

Liz Prence, a native of Ellwood City is doing an independent study to help people find the reason for their high electric utilization. Prence has over 35 years experience in data analysis and quality control, she has a Bachelors in biochemistry and is currently chief quality officer for Healthmap Solutions. The study will help provide information and effective solutions to people who have excessively high electric bills by determining the cause of the discrepancies seen among electric customers. “We are all charged the same rate per KWH, yet many residents don’t have high electric bills (me, for example),” Prence said….

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Monaca on Friday afternoon to square off in a doubleheader with a very talented Central Valley Warrior team. OLD PHOTO FRIDAY: Connoquenessing Creek Overflowing 1970’s

This week’s Old Photo Friday, courtesy of the Ellwood City Historical Society is a photo of Ellwood City’s Mckim Way flooded when the Connoquenessing Creek overflowed. Its banks rose to a three-foot level in some of the cottages, while outside water was waist high in some places.
