Relay For Life Event Leadership Meeting Planned

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Ellwood will be holding its next event leadership meeting this Tuesday, December 11th at 6:00pm. The group will be meeting at the Ellwood City Moose Lodge located at 1400 Factory Avenue in Ellwood City.  The meeting, open to the public, is scheduled to last approximately one hour. The meeting will continue plans for our 2019 event again on Lawrence Avenue downtown.  The theme is Carnival with a large Kid Zone needing volunteers. The Ellwood City Municipal Women’s Club will be holding their 32nd Annual Christmas House Tour on Saturday, December 8, from 10:00 a.m until 3:00 p.m. On the tour, there will be five homes featured. Tickets are $10 and sold at local businesses such as Kimpel’s Jewelers and Blocher’s Jewelers, Marketplace on Main, Shop at the Underpass and Posies by Patti. Mayor Court has proclaimed Friday, December 7, 2018 as “Joseph Gasper Day in Ellwood City”, which is also Pearl Harbor Day. PA Gambling Regulator Holds Public Hearing Big Beaver Mini-Casino

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board hosted Tuesday a public hearing in Big Beaver to hear additional details about a proposed mini-casino by the owners of Mount Airy Casino Resort. Developers presented a summary of their 400-page application with the state gaming regulator to a packed room at the Big Beaver fire hall. The Gaming Control Board selected in February Mount Airy as the winning bidders for the construction of one of five mini-casinos across the state. The casino operator presented a $21,888,888.88 winning bid for the development of a gaming facility on 100 acres of land in Big Beaver, just off Interstate 376. The…


Ellwood City Borough Code Office Reminder

It has been brought to the attention of the Ellwood City Borough Code Office that residents are dumping leaves and other yard waste over the hill onto borough property. This has been reported in the Ewing Park area as well as the Pittsburgh Circle area. Borough Ordinance 1060.01, section J, strictly prohibits this action. It is also illegal to put leaves and grass clippings onto the streets as they will clog the sewers. Violators will be prosecuted. Ellwood City Medical Center Pays Off Debts To Borough

As of Tuesday, December 4, the debts to the Borough of Ellwood City have been cleared for the struggling Ellwood City Medical Center. Joe Cioffi, Ellwood City’s interim borough manager, confirmed that two checks had arrived on Tuesday on behalf of the Florida-based company Americore Health LLC, the owner of the medical center,  that had paid off the hospital’s existing debt with the borough. According to Cioffi, Fidelity National Title Insurance Co. of Chicago wrote the checks. The company had closed on a refinancing deal with Americore last week. Lincoln High School’s 75th Annual Christmas Gift Concert

The Lincoln High Schools Choral Music Department is extremely proud to be presenting it’s 75th Annual Christmas Gift Concert on Sunday, December 16, at 3:00 p.m at Lincoln High School. The music department is dedicated to maintaining the wonderful tradition of excellence in choral music making began by the late Paul Gehm 75 years ago, which was continued by Sandy Lumley Garlick and the late Cindy Pertile. Route 351 Koppel Bridge Traffic Stoppages begin Monday

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing traffic stoppages on the Koppel Bridge (Route 351) in Koppel Borough and North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, will begin Monday, December 3 weather permitting. Traffic stoppages of 15 minutes or less will occur weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Koppel Bridge through Tuesday, January 15. Crews from Brayman Construction will conduct steel erection for the new bridge from the existing structure. Motorists should expect delays.
