Ellwood City Meals on Wheels Speeding Ahead

Juicy meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and corn: Can you smell what Ellwood City Area Meals on Wheels has cooking? Monday’s April 1 reopening of the beloved program was also its 45th anniversary. With a new dedicated headquarters and cook, Terri Crespo, Meals on Wheels board member, said the program is completely back in business and ready to serve those in need. Pension Forfeiture Measure Sent to Governor

Legislation ensuring that public employees who commit job-related felonies are stripped of their taxpayer-funded pensions received final legislative approval in the Senate on March 20 and was sent to the Governor’s desk for enactment into law, according to Senator Elder Vogel. Currently, the Public Employee Pension Forfeiture Act requires pension forfeiture only for certain specific crimes. This allows public employees charged with a forfeiture crime to plead guilty to a different non-forfeiture crime in order to avoid losing their pension. Bernstine, PA Lawmakers Request Federal Regulatory Relief for PA Faith-Based Adoption Agencies

HARRISBURG – In an effort to ensure more foster children can find forever families, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) sent a letter last week to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) requesting relief from federal regulations he says are being unconstitutionally imposed on faith-based adoption and foster care agencies in Pennsylvania. The letter, which was sent to HHS Assistant Secretary of Administration for Children and Families Lynn Johnson, was co-signed by more than 35 members of the Pennsylvania Legislature. EC Varsity Softball Team Defeats Shenango; Improves to 2-1 on the Season

After a losing effort on Thursday against Ambridge, the Lady Wolverines got back to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they beat Shenango 14-2 on the Wildcats home turf.  The game was much closer than the final score as the Wolverines held a slim 3-2 lead until the fifth inning. Attention Lincoln and Riverside High School Seniors

The annual Ellwood City Area Historical Society Scholarship submission is quickly approaching.  In hand, the deadline is Thursday, April 11, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.  The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award two $1500.00 scholarships to two (2) graduating seniors.  Graduating seniors from Lincoln High School and Riverside High School who have been accepted to attend a college, Trade School or Performing Arts are eligible.  Applications may be received from the High School Student Guidance Counselor or from the Ellwood City History Center. The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. DUI Arrest Leads To Drug Confiscation  On Wednesday, March 26, 23-year-old Cody Crawford, of New Castle, was arrested after police pulled him over on 5th Street for reckless driving. Reports state Crawford was “on Lawrence Avenue traveling all over the roadway” in his 2018 Chevy Impala. Junior High Softball Team Defeats North Allegheny Black

After defeating North Allegheny White on Tuesday, the black squad visited Stiefel Park on Wednesday. This game was more competitive but the end result was another victory for the Lady Wolverines. The young ladies prevailed by a score of 13-9. The Wolverines jumped out fast as they plated 7 runs in the home half of the first. EC Grad Skyla Greco Named PSAC West Softball Pitcher Of The Week

For the second time in her sophomore season, Skyla Greco has been named the PSAC West Softball Pitcher of the Week. The Seton Hill sophomore also earned the first award for this season from the league as well. Greco threw a no-hitter game during the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Wheeling Jesuit. She gave up only one unearned run during an error in the first inning to help keep the Cardinals hitless, finishing out the game with a strikeout six for the win.
