Riverside’s Hand Finishes Strong In Opening Round at US Junior Amateur Championship

Riverside’s Justin Hand posted an opening-round 76 (+5) on Monday in the 72nd U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at historic Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. After struggling on the front nine of the round, including posting a triple-bogey, Hand settled down and fired a two-under 34 on the back-nine to level out to his first-round 76. The round sets him tied for 64th place out of 156 golfers. Koppel Bridge To Close In August

According to PA Department of Transportation officer Steve Cowan, a tentative closure date of the current 102-year-old Koppel Bridge is scheduled for August 13.  The closure is for 72 consecutive days. “During this time we will be constructing a retaining wall and doing approach roadway grading, drainage, paving, guide rail, line painting, any remaining bridge work, some demo to the old structure and planting/seeding work,” said Cowan in email. Lagoon, Koscinski Hired as Armed Police Officers for Ellwood City Schools

The Ellwood City Area School Board hired two armed school police officers for the 2019-2020 school year. Robert Lagoon of Zelienople and Brad Koscinski of Grove City were announced as the first armed officers who will serve the school district thanks to a $156,400 grant provided by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The grant will allow the district to employ the two officers for two years. Master Gardeners Host 4th Annual Garden Tour

The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County are hosting their Fourth Annual Garden Tour on Sunday, July 21st from Noon to 5:00 p.m. The tour highlights five area gardens, which can be toured at your own pace. Master Gardeners will be available at each location to answer questions. The tour will consist of five gardens within Lawrence County.
