The Butterfly Foundation Opens Pop-up Clothing Cupboard

A local non-profit organization, The Butterfly Foundation, will be holding a complimentary kid’s clothing cupboard on Saturday, August 10. The cupboard will have boys and girls gently used clothing ranging from 4T to size 16 in older kids. They will also have shoes and backpacks available. Parents and their kids can “shop” from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ellwood City Moose Lodge. Ellwood City Defeats Mars, Wins 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament

Ellwood City defeated Mars, 4-2, to win the 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Sunday night. Ellwood City, which went undefeated in the tournament, won the title for the first time since 2008. Cheered on by a large home crowd, Ellwood City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. With the victory, Ellwood City won their third straight tournament-winning the New Brighton and Neshannock tournaments previously. The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include WEDNESDAY, JULY 31 10:00 a.m. – “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. America Legion Post 157 will host a summer picnic for members, their families, and guests at 1:00 pm, August 25th at the Ellwood-Wampum Rod & Gun Club, located at 2406 Wampum Road. Ellwood City downed Saxonburg, 12-6, in the 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Wednesday night. Landis allowed one hit over four innings and smacked two singles and a double to lead Ellwood City.  Ellwood City scored two runs in the top of the first inning.  Jordan Keller led off with a single, stole second base and scored on an RBI-single by Tristan Nash. NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a North Sewickley Township father fatally shot his daughter’s boyfriend because he believed he had gotten her “hooked on drugs.” Michael D’Bagio, 41, of Sanger Drive, is charged homicide and aggravated assault after fatally shooting an Ellwood City teenager, 17-year-old Darren Jevcak, after a confrontation outside of Jevcak’s employer in New Castle. According to a criminal complaint, D’Bagio shot Jevack five or six times. When Jevcak came outside, Dbagio shot him in the arm. Six Neglected Dogs Rescued From Ellwood City Home

According to criminal complaints, in January, Humane Officers arrived at a home on 13th Street due to a humane complaint regarding several dogs that were tied outside and being neglected. At approximately 8:00 p.m. officers made contact with homeowner Andrew Johnson, 32, and later the owner of the dogs Joanne Johnson, 54, both of 412 13th Street, Ellwood City. In Johnson’s backyard, six dogs were tied up outside in the freezing weather and were without proper shelter, food, or water. In other words, the dogs were being neglected. 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Begins This Week

The 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament, the oldest tournament in the area, began Tuesday night at Friedhoff Field in Ewing Park. New Brighton squared off against Neshannock on Tuesday in the opening game. Ellwood City will meet Saxonburg on Wednesday at 6:00 PM.  Ellwood City will be seeking its first championship since 2008.  Wilmington collected the tournament championship last year while Riverside has been crown champion three times in the last 10 years.
