Riverside Roars Back Late, Upsets Burgettstown

Riverside overcame a 15-point second half deficit to rally back and upset #3 seed, and host Burgettstown 42-35 in overtime Friday night in WPIAL Class-AA opening round playoff action. Riverside (7-3 overall) roared back with Ben Hughes tallying the game tying score and two-point conversion midway through the 4th quarter. After the teams exchanged unsuccessful possessions late, the game bled to overtime where the Panthers secured the upset. Senate Approves Vogel Bill Promoting Telemedicine in Pennsylvania

On October 30, the Senate approved legislation introduced by Senator Elder Vogel (R-Beaver) aimed at promoting telemedicine in Pennsylvania as a way to overcome barriers to quality patient care created by distance and reduce the costs of those services. Senate Bill 857 specifically defines telemedicine as “the delivery of health care services provided through telecommunications technology to a patient by a healthcare practitioner who is at a different location.” It also establishes guidelines regarding who can provide telemedicine services, and provides clarity regarding insurance company reimbursement for those services. “Telemedicine can help patients get the care they need. Ellwood City Cocaine Dealer Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court to 15 years (180 months) in prison and six years of supervised release on his conviction of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and distribution of cocaine, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today. Senior United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Taurean Potter, age 34, of Ellwood City Pennsylvania. Hygiene Helper Container Introduce At Giant Eagle

A new container introduced at Ellwood City Giant Eagle is aimed to help provide hygiene products for kids in need. Gina Morini Felouzis, of Mario’s Giant Eagle, in Ellwood City, and Riverside Lions club president, Chip Campbell, introduced the new contained stationed within Giant Eagle to collect donated hygiene products. The donated items will be distributed among area students in need. Campbell hopes people will treat the container like ‘Toys for Tots,’ only for hygiene products that, although not recognized, have a great bearing on student’s performance in the classroom. Bernstine Invites Veterans in 10th District to Breakfast

HARRISBURG – To show appreciation to veterans in the 10th District for their service to the country, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) is hosting a Veterans Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, Nov. 1. Wolverines Ousted By Defending Champion Trojans

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines volleyball team fell to top-seeded, and defending champion North Catholic (17-0) in WPIAL quarterfinal action on Tuesday. The Trojans captured the victory in straight sets, 25-13, 25-11, 25-19, to advance to the Class-AA semifinals on Thursday. Mayor Anthony Court announced this week an upcoming radio show on local channel 107.3 WXED. Court’s Weekly Community Update Radio Show on WXED 107.3 will air three times weekly. Oktoberfest Volunteers – Going Above And Beyond

Ellwood City, PA. A check presentation dinner meeting was hosted by the Wolves Club on October 23 at Carusone’s Catering Hall in Ellwood City. Profits from the highly successful Oktoberfest event were distributed to the Lions Club, Rotary Club and the ALS Association of Western PA by chairman Denny Boariu.
