Historical Society Set to Award Two Scholarships To High School Seniors

Attention ALL Lincoln High School & Riverside High School Seniors — the annual Ellwood City Area Historical Society Scholarship submission is quickly approaching! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entry deadline has been extended, and is now due Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award two $1,500.00 scholarships to two (2) graduating seniors. Wolverine Wrestling Collects One Win In Laurel Duals Tournament

The Ellwood City Wolverines wrestling team finished 1-4 in the 2021 Laurel Duals wrestling tournament over the weekend at Laurel High School. The Wolverines collected its 39-24 victory over New Castle on Saturday in the opening round of the tournament. Ben Gallenz (106 lb, EC) pinned Kortel Marshal at 0:24 and Rodney Grymes (189 lb, EC) collected a decision victory 11-7 over Noah Shields to lead the Wolverines.  126 – Dom Dausman, 132 – Elijah Shelby, 152 – Ryan Nazari, 160 – Chris Quintanella, and 285 – Donovan Stiffler all collected forfeit victories for Ellwood City. Wolf Announces $600 Pandemic Relief Awards to Eligible Child Care Employees

On Wednesday, Governor Tom Wolf announced the opportunity for one-time, $600 grants for child care workers across Pennsylvania. The funds are available to child care providers licensed by the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) through federal Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) quality dollars and remaining funding previously made available through federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act allocated for child care providers. “A healthy, vibrant child care industry is a cornerstone of a healthy economy. Lady Wolverines Surge In Second Quarter, Race Past Riverside

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines used a 21-1 second quarter surge to race past the visiting Riverside Panthers 45-11 Monday Night at Lincoln High School. After exchanging scores early in the first quarter, Ellwood City posted their impressive run in the second quarter taking an 8-6 advantage to a comfortable 29-7 halftime lead.  Great defense translated to multiple fast break points and layups for the Lady Wolverines. Ellwood City Borough Council to Advertise Bids for Waste Collection

Trash was the top topic at Ellwood City’s Borough Council meeting Monday night. Council voted to advertise bids for the collection of refuse, recycling, and yard waste. Borough Manager David Allen said this is just the bidding process and that a final decision as to the process and collection company will come later. Before voting to allow the bidding process, Councilwoman Lisa Guererra requested that officials take into consideration the concerns and needs of all community members including the ones who like the bags, who don’t like the bags, and those who pay to have their own dumpsters. Katie’s Korner Announces MLK Day of Service Donation

As we celebrate a day of recognition for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a local ice creamery is giving back. Katie’s Korner of North Sewickley Township will be donating 100% of its business income on Martin Luther King Day 2021 to the Beaver branch of the Literacy Pittsburgh program. Literacy Pittsburgh’s Beaver office provides free literacy programs for adults throughout Beaver County.
