Ellwood City Wrestling MAC Tournament Results

The Ed Driscoll MAC Wrestling Tournament is one of the biggest wrestling tournaments that features some of the best talent from all around the country. The 24 team tournament saw Quaker Valley crowned as top overall team win with 223 points, beating out other powerhouse teams such as West Allegheny, Laurel, Montour, and Central Valley.  Ellwood City finished 11th overall with 39.0 points. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: New Castle Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on January 8th on West Lawrence Avenue in Wayne Township. A 2019 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling too fast downhill and swerved to miss an animal and then left the north side of the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle struck the left front end of a parked and unoccupied 2004 Ford F250. The Chevrolet came to a final rest on the north berm of West Lawrence Avenue. Gun Show To Take Place In February

The Castlewood Rod and Gun Club is sponsoring a Gun Show this year on February 26th and 27th. The two day even will take place at the Wurtemburg Perry Fire Hall in Ellwood City. The public is invited to this event where you will be able to buy, sell and trade firearms and accessories for trade, sale and exhibit. ECASD Hires Head Football Coach; Approves COVID Health and Safety Plan

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Daniel Bradley to serve as head coach of varsity football. Bradley received unanimous support from the board. He will be paid $7,000. “The students are elated,” said Brian Partridge, football boosters president, who was in attendance at the meeting. Bradley has a decade of experience serving as head coach. During that time, he has a 80-33 record. He has appeared in four WPIAL title games, with a winning title in 2018. Lincoln High School Releases Updated COVID-19 Policies

With the new COVID-19 variant lurking, schools are now taking a closer look at their policies and making changes they see fit. Lincoln High School has made some changes and updates to their mask policies and what to do about positive cases. These policies will go into effect starting Friday, January 14th. The masks will remain in the school. Students and staff who are identified as possible exposure IN SCHOOL ONLY, can avoid quarantine by masking while in school for 10 calendar days. Historical Society Updates From First Meeting Of 2022

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society held their first general meeting for the year 2022 on Monday January 10th. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag led by Guy Prestia, a World War II veteran. The first order of business was the installation of officers elected in November, led by past president Al Kocher. The new officers, Everett Bleakney, President; Andy Kindle, 1st Vice President; Bob Morabito, 2nd Vice President; Lois Liebendorfer, Secretary; and Charles as Treasurer. PennDOT Promotes Safe Driving During Winter Driving Awareness Week

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is highlighting safe driving tips in conjunction with Winter Driving Awareness Week, which runs through January 15. As the region recently experienced its first snowfall, drivers should prepare their vehicles for the winter by checking fluid levels, lights, defrosters and windshield wiper blades, in addition to ensuring proper tire air pressure and adequate tread depth. Wilmington Greyhounds Defeat Trinity On Senior Night

The Wilmington hockey team defeated Trinity at Hess Ice Rink on Senior Night by a score of 7-6. The seniors class honored prior to the game were Ayden Leslie (Mohawk), Bo Leslie (Mohawk), Cody Williams (Ellwood), Dom Serafino (Wilmington), Drake Tomak (Ellwood), Josh Work (New Castle), Logan Popovich (Wilmington), and Tyler Girman (New Castle).
