Local State Lawmakers Announce $4.6 Million in State Funding for 22 Beaver County Projects

Darlington Township, Franklin Township and North Sewickley Township were among those awarded over $4.6 million in state grant funding focused on improving municipal infrastructure and public safety according to Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) and Reps. Roman Kozak (R-14), Josh Kail (R-15) and Robert Matzie (D-16). The funding was administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. Darlington Township will look to receive two new police vehicles, Franklin Township will acquire 392 acres of the Hereford Manor Lakes property ensuring the cherished property remains a protected green space for future generations to enjoy, and North Sewickley Township will replace the flat roof…

Lincoln High School Students Earn 2nd & 3rd Place Finishes at Junior Achievement’s Stock Market Challenge

The Ellwood City Area School District made headlines last Friday as two teams of local students from Lincoln High School earned 2nd and 3rd place finishes at the Junior Achievement’s Stock Market Challenge presented by Citizens. The two-day, high-energy financial literacy competition took place at Stage AE in Pittsburgh on December 11th and 12th. The second and third place team beat out 75 teams/259 students during Friday’s competition to claim top spots. Each team took home cash prizes and bragging rights. Santa Claus Is Coming To Franklin Township on Sunday

Ho, ho, ho! Santa Claus is coming to town. Frankin Township that is. On Sunday, December 21st, Santa Claus will be escorted by the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department to see all of the good girls and boys this holiday weekend. The route will begin in Tomicia Springs at noon. Listen for sirens and look for the flashing red lights to announce Santa’s arrival. PHOTOS: Riverside Edges Ellwood 49-47 In Overtime

Riverside used a 17-point effort by Cole Becker to knock off rival Ellwood City 49-47 in overtime Tuesday evening. The Panthers led 27-18 at halftime before the visiting Wolverines narrowed the gap with a third quarter surge and held Riverside to only three fourth quarter points to force overtime. Becker scored four of Riversides nine points in overtime including the decisive last two points. EC Borough Council Passes Budget; Recognizes Young Hero

Ellwood City Borough Council voted to adopt an ordinance to establish the real property tax rate at 11.75 mills for the year 2026 and also voted to pass a resolution adopting a 2026 budget. Councilman James Barry and Councilman James Johnson both voted “No” to the real property tax rate and the resolution to adopt the 2026 budget. Councilman George Celli voted “No” to adopt a 2026 budget. Ellwood Area Family Center Holding Youth Basketball Sessions

The Ellwood Area Family Center will be hosting youth basketball sessions beginning next month. The basketball sessions will be held at the Ellwood Area Family Center on the North Side of Ellwood City on Thursday afternoons beginning on Thursday, January 8th. The clinic will run for five consecutive Thursdays and will be available for ages 8, 9, and 10-year-old children. Each weekly session will be one hour in length from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost for the program is $45.00 per applicant and players are asked to bring their own ball.
