Senator Vogel Proposes Farmer “Legacy” Tax Credit

With the “graying” of Pennsylvania’s farm families, Senator Elder Vogel is preparing to introduce legislation that will encourage existing farmers and landowners to work with beginning farmers to help them get started. “My legislation provides a personal income tax credit for landowners who lease or sell their land, buildings, and equipment to beginning farmers,” said Senator Vogel, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee and operates a family farm in Beaver County that was established in the late 1800s. “The number one concern faced by new farmers is finding affordable farmland. Upcoming ServSafe Food Safety Certification Class

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. — Starting in 2020, the Pennsylvania Food Code will require that the person in charge of a food service operation be a certified food protection manager — and such a person must be onsite at all times during operating hours. That means at least one employee on each shift must become certified. Ellwood City Man Admits He Trafficked Cocaine

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of distribution and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced on Monday. Jeffrey Vitale, 29, of Ellwood City pleaded guilty to one count before Senior United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that on or about February 16, 2018, Vitale distributed and possessed with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance. POLICE: Social Security Telephone Scam Reported

The Ellwood City Police Department is warning residents against a scam in which a caller is looking to gain Social Security numbers and money. Residents said a person pretending to be an employee of the Social Security Administration — and whose phone number sometimes appears on caller ID as a legitimate number for the agency — has been contacting residents. Several versions of the scam, the phony caller tells the resident that their Social Security number has been linked to a crime (often, they says it happened in Texas) involving drugs or sending money out of the country illegally. Ellwood City Police Officers donated to the Lincoln High School, AP Government, and Politics Class to help fund their trip to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Session. The annual Ellwood City Area Historical Society Scholarship submission is quickly approaching. In hand deadline is Thursday April 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award two $1500.00 scholarships to two (2) graduating seniors. Graduating seniors from Lincoln High School and Riverside High School who have been accepted to attend a college, Trade School or Performing Arts are eligible.
