The Code Enforcement Office of the Borough of Ellwood City is reminding residents to maintain their properties this summer. Per the release and per Borough Ordinance, it is the property owner’s responsibility to maintain all properties within the Borough of Ellwood City from the curb inward. Former Wampum Man Pleads to Violating Federal Drug and Gun Laws

A former Wampum resident pleaded guilty in federal court to violating the federal narcotics and firearms laws, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced this week. Michael Turner, 49, formerly of Wampum, PA, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon before United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that beginning in 2019, agents with the FBI and other agencies investigated drug trafficking activity in Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood, and elsewhere. Due to Health Concerns the Ellwood City Italian American Heritage Foundation (ECIAHF) has canceled all June Activities and Meetings. ECIAHF will resume its monthly meeting Friday July 22, 2022 at the Ellwood City Area Historical Society located at 310 Fifth Street at 10:00 a.m. A special presentation is being planned. Ellwood City Youth Wins State DAR Service Award

Hayden Slade, a rising senior at Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, is the first place winner of the Pennsylvania State Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s (PSSDAR’s) Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award for his service to veterans and our troops. Hayden is sponsored by the Pymatuning Chapter in Sharon, where his grandmother Theresa Harkless Woods is a member. His State level submission also went on to win the Eastern Division of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). Lawrence County Students New Members Of BC3 Academic Honor Society

Seven Butler County Community College (BC3) students from Lawrence County, including three Ellwood City residents, are among 79 new members of BC3’s chapter of an international academic honor society. New members of Rho Phi, the college’s 54-year-old chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5. Students who have completed at least 12 credit hours toward an associate degree or six credit hours toward a one-year certificate and who meet academic requirements are eligible for membership in Rho Phi. Wampum American Legion Offering An All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast

Eastbound US 422 Bridge Inspection Next Week in Lawrence County

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing work to inspect the bridge that carries eastbound US 422 over the Shenango River in the City of New Castle and Taylor Township, Lawrence County, will begin Monday, June 6 weather permitting. Single-lane restrictions will occur on eastbound US 422 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 6-10 as crews conduct bridge inspection activities. The Ellwood City Italian American Heritage Foundation (ECIAHF) met at Ellwood City Area Historical Society on Friday May 27, 2022 for the monthly meeting. President Barbara Mastropietro welcomed the group giving special recognition to our Founder Mr. Gene Morabito. A Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance were offered.
