Celebrate National Poetry Month at the Carnegie Free Library of Beaver Falls. Ellwood City Wolverines Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Beaver Falls Ellwood City Wolverines defeated Beaver Falls 7-6 in a back-and-forth affair on Wednesday. The game was tied at three with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the sixth when Jordan Recce reached on a dropped third strike. House Passes Bernstine Bill to Hold Lottery Winners Accountable for Debts

HARRISBURG – Common-sense, bipartisan legislation to intercept lottery winnings by individuals who are delinquent on state taxes or behind on child support payments has passed unanimously in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, announced bill sponsor, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence).  House Bill 674 requires the Department of Revenue (DOR) to determine whether taxpayers who win a single prize of more than $2,500 from the Pennsylvania Lottery have any unpaid state taxes. If the taxpayer does have an outstanding state tax liability and all appeal rights have been exhausted, the amount of state tax that is owed will be deducted from the winnings…

Doyle Kent Butler, 67

Doyle Kent Butler, 67, of Ellwood City passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the VNA Hospice in Butler. Doyle was born on January 20, 1950 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Doyle E. and Doris Taylor Butler. He is a member of the Riverside High School class of 1968, and was certified as a diesel mechanic by the Diesel Mechanic School in New Castle. He enlisted with the U.S. Army on September 26, 1969 and served until his discharge on March 24, 1972.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.  Doyle worked at the Babcock & Wilcox…

With the Ellwood City Adult Basketball League’s regular season winding down, quite a bit was on the line Sunday at the Family Center. To start, the highly coveted first round playoff bye was still up for grabs. Turncoats, owners of first place, looked to continue their residency of the top seed.
