TELL ME A TALE: Prison Based Family Literacy Initiative

Family literacy programs can provide opportunities for education success for parents and children.  These programs can serve as models of family involvement, showing how families can become part of an extended classroom and build on the work of the school.  Engagement in family programs does not have to stop because a parent is incarcerated. Yard Waste Pick Up

Yard waste pick up for Ellwood City is scheduled for the week of May 15. The following information is gathered from Ellwood City Borough’s official website: YARD WASTE PICK UP: Green borough yard waste bins are also available for residents to dispose of their simple yard waste. Yard waste bins are available for purchase for $53.00 and can be purchased at the borough utility office or by calling 724-758-5576. Yard waste bins are collected on specified weeks throughout the calendar years. Dates are also provided on borough utility bills. Class of ’54 April Meeting

Pudue LaCava hosted the Lincoln Class of 1954 “Nite at the Movies” committee meeting at her Mt. Vernon Drive home on Wednesday April 19. The session began with a luncheon provided by the committee, featuring pizza by “Pinky” Maielli and dessert by Ilene Gardner and served by LaCava and Gardner. Co-Chairman, James Gillespie conducted the business session that followed. Clemmy Sirimarco presented the financial reports. Gillespie reported on the fund raising and distributed the April tickets. Mountaineer Casino Bus Trip Sunday, May 7, 2017 8:30 A.M. Depart       Team Circle of Friends is going to Mountaineer in Wheeling, West Virginia to play at the casino.  The group will depart from the Ellwood City Hospital via Anderson Coach at 8:30 am and gamble until 3:00 pm, during the ride there will be fun and games.  The cost is $30.00 which includes a $20.00 slot play vouchers received upon arrival to the casino. Stiefel Park Batting Practice: Lady Wolverines Hit 2 Homers and Improve to 10-0

 Grove City entered Friday evening’s non section game with 11 home runs on the season. The Lady Wolverines won the home run battle and the game with a 9-5 victory. BC3 Lauds Scholarly Ellwood City Residents

(Butler, PA) Kimberly Gardner, of Second Street, was among Ellwood City residents whose academic achievements were recognized by Butler County Community College on Tuesday during Student Awards Day. Gardner, 55, a 1980 graduate of Lincoln High School, will receive two associate of applied science degrees in May from BC3, in human resource management and in business management. She was honored Tuesday for having attained President’s List honors in the spring and fall semesters of 2016.
