Portersville Christian School Information Night/Open House

Portersville Christian School will hold an information Night/Open House on Tuesday April 3, 2018 at 7:00 pm for families interested in enrolling students for the 2018-2019 school year. The school is accepting student applications and registrations prior to the release of next year’s tuition schedule at the end of March 2018. In addition to kindergarten, there are openings in most grade levels for fall 2018. Local Author Plans Book Signing

Local author Nancy K. Wallace is celebrating the publication of her third and final book in the Wolves of Llisé trilogy with a book-signing event at the Ellwood City Library on Friday, March 23, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Before Winter is the conclusion of the fantasy series and follows Among Wolves and Grim Tidings, in the Wolves of Llisé trilogy, published by Harper Collins UK. Mayor’s Advisory Committee Monthly Meeting Recap

On March 8, 2018 the Mayor’s Advisory Committee met in Council Chambers. The Mayor stressed the importance of being aware of your surroundings especially at night, to combat crime. Discussed was the possibility of hiring another Police Officer.  The Mayor advised that the Borough is employing many ways to attack crime, preventive measures.  Some of these preventive measures have led to many drug arrests, 422 since Court has taken office.  One of the new measures is “Perception is Everything” and commands immediate attention. Ellwood Historical Society Monthly Meeting Recap

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society monthly membership meeting was held last Monday, March 12, 2018. Guy Prestia, a World War II Veteran led the Pledge to the American flag. Those in attendance were reminded of the annual Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarships.  Two (2) $1500.00 scholarships will be awarded at the May meeting.  Graduating students from Lincoln High and Riverside High Schools are eligible.  Applications may be obtained from the Guidance Counselors of the schools.  The scholarships have been awarded through the Historical Society since the year 1999. Wampum’s Wine & Beer Festival Set For March 24

The Wampum Area Revitalization Committee will hold a Wine & Beer Festival from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on March 24th at the Wampum Gymnasium, located at 372 Main Street. Regional craft beer and wine makers will be present to offer tastings and products. Food and appetizers will be provided by the Lawrence County Career and Technology Center ( LCCTC) Restaurant Trade Program direct by Jennifer Price. Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 held their monthly meeting at Pizza Joe’s on Wednesday, February 14th. All in attendance participated in the Valentine lunch served by Purdue LaCava, Lois DiFrischia and Margaret Cancelli. President, Clemmy Sirimarco extended the welcome with Valentine greetings to all. Ellwood City Kindergarten Registration Announced

Ms. Christine Gibson, Principal of North Side Primary School, announces that Kindergarten Registration for the 2018-19 school year in the Ellwood City Area School District will be conducted on March 20, 21, 22, 2018 at the North Side Primary School. As part of the registration process, forms soliciting names of eligible kindergarten children have been sent home with elementary students. To be eligible for Kindergarten in 2018, children must be five years old prior to August 15, 2018. Ellwood City Announces Utility Account Budget Plan

According to a press release made available by the Borough of Ellwood City, the Borough Council adopted Resolution #2004-4 approving a budget plan for utility accounts. Under the plan customers may complete an application form provided by the Borough during the annual open enrollment period lasting from the third Monday in March (March 19) through the third Friday in April (April 20). The first budget-billing amount will appear on the May utility bill. The maximum budget periods will be twelve (12) months with all balances due to be settled in the 12th month. According to information made available by the Ellwood City Police Department on Thursday, residents in the Ellwood City area have been receiving calls from an individuals with foreign accent, claiming they’re MICROSOFT Security and the resident(s) computer is malfunctioning. The caller goes on to make reference to Windows, Excel and other Microsoft products. The call back number provided is (877) 930-8384. This one of the many scams attempted by telephone, police encourage residents to hang up on the caller, and always remember Microsoft will not contact you concerning your computer.
