Carnegie Free Library Presents: Uncomfortable Conversations – Human Trafficking

[Beaver Falls, PA]  Wednesday, March 14^th at 6:30pm The Carnegie Free Library of Beaver Falls (CFLBF) will present the first in a series of uncomfortable conversations.  The topic will be “Human Trafficking – its closer than you think”.

The series is called uncomfortable conversations because these are not easy topics that have simple solutions.  CFLBF Director Jean Barsotti:  “The series will create forums to help initiate conversations about topics that can affect our children, our families, our friends, and our communities.  Each of the programs will be designed to provide the opportunity to become aware of community issues, begin a discussion, share what you know so others can learn, and when possible, they will be empowered to take appropriate action.”

“Human Trafficking:  It’s closer than you think”, will begin the series of uncomfortable conversations with two concurrent, 45 minute sessions.  The presenter for the Tweens & Teens age group will be Brenda Lutz, a representative from Shared Hope while the Adult presentation will be led by Sister Jeanette Bussin, Co-Chair of the Beaver County Human Anti-Trafficking Coalition.  After a short break, all age groups will be together in a wrap-up session that will provide a panel discussion including additional community experts such as Detective Anthony Berosh, Ann Lewis representing A Child’s Place and Andrea Cotton-Anderson, from Standing in the Gap.

CFLBF is currently implementing its “Comprehensive Plan for Vision Transformation”, a long term plan to transform existing library services into a 21^st Century experience.   Ms. Barsotti:  “Today, a Library must be more than a place to ‘check out a book’.  The Vision of the Carnegie Free Library of Beaver Falls is to inspire and empower lifelong learning and the exchange of knowledge and our Comprehensive Plan is based in the concept of community engagement.   We are constantly enlisting individuals from our community and service area who will unselfishly share their specific knowledge and expertise with interested parties of all ages to support our vision and assist our Board of Trustees as we bring our Comprehensive Plan to life.”
