Margaret R. (Watson) Gioffre, of Koppel, died at home on July 1, 2017. Margaret’s husband, Lou Gioffre, died in 2002. They were happily married for 56 years. Margaret had a real zest for life, and she lived it to the fullest. She valued her family above everything and enjoyed springtime, sitting on her back porch, challenging her brain with crossword puzzles, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Sunday afternoons were frequently spent watching golf on TV. She especially enjoyed musical theater, had many favorites shows, and could sing along with many Broadway tunes. Born February 8, 1923 in Baiano, Italy, he was the son of the late Stefano and Giorgina DeGennaro Tomeo. He was married to Violet “Honey” Paswell Tomeo who passed away January 28, 2002. Betty Popa, 99, of Wampum passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 at her residence following an extended illness. Born February 15, 1918 in Wampum, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Zenovia Toda Pope. She was married to George Popa Jr. who died June 8, 1959. Betty graduated from Wampum High School and from St. Francis School of Nursing. She worked from 1945 to 1959 as the Nurse Supervisor of the Operating Room at the Ellwood City Hospital. Paul Zurynski, 89, of Koppel, PA, died peacefully at Allegheny General Hospital on Sunday, June 25, 2017 with his children at his side. On April 1, 1928, Paul was born in Koppel, PA. He was the son of the late Stanley and Katherine (Gurniak) Zwierzynski. Paul was a long-time member of St. Teresa’s Parish in Koppel (integrated into Holy Redeemer Parish). Timothy D. Gorgas, 66, of Ellport passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at UPMC Passavant Cranberry Twp. following an apparent heart attack. Born January 6, 1951 in New Castle, he was the son of the late John Adam and Helen Cello Gorgas. He was married for over 33 years to Pam Rossman Montozzi Gorgas, who survives. Born October 23, 1931 in Wampum, PA, she was the daughter of the late James Kirkwood and Helen Nagel Kirkwood. Born May 3, 1950 in Annapolis, MD, he was the son of the late Albert Sr. and Sophie Kazenski Smith. He was married to Avis D’Amico Smith for 38 years, she survives.
