A Response to the Ellwood City School District on Outsourcing and Negotiations

Julie Blust, a representative of Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ, and on behalf of The Ellwood City School District Workers Bargaining Committee, released a response to the Ellwood City School District outsourcing negotiations over the weekend. “We found the School District’s account of our contract negotiations to be worryingly inaccurate so we feel that it is important to set the record straight,” Blust begins in her statement which reads as follows. The game of football has three phases: offense, defense, and special teams. Under each phase is a sub-phase that contributes to a victory, such as passing, rushing, turnovers, tackling, kicking, and punting. All these and more were won by the Panthers of Riverside in a one-sided, full dominant 40-0 victory Friday night. Local Communities Observe National School Bus Safety Week

Ellwood City Man Facing Endangering Welfare of Children Charges

Charles Ray Murray, 38, of Ellwood City, is facing charges after leaving four young children at home without any adult supervision while he went out to play cards. According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Murray’s Crescent Avenue residence by the biological mother of his children after she was talked to their 11-year-old over the phone who stated they were unsupervised in the residence. FREE Hand Sewing Class Offered at Daysprings

A free hand sewing class will be held at Dayspring Gifts on 6th Street in Ellwood City on Saturday, November 4 from 10a.m.-11:30a.m. The class will be taught by local artist and clothing designer, Katie Keally. Participants are requested to bring along an old pair of jeans or denim jacket to transform them into a piece of art! After 11 years of service to the Ellwood City area, The Car Wash of Ellwood City located at 1510 W. Lawrence Ave., is changing ownership. The car wash’s official Facebook page uploaded this farewell status:   McElwain Motors has purchased the car wash and is expected to continue operating it as a car wash.

Riverside Sophomores Advance to Golf PIAA Finals

Area Residents Warned to Stay Alert to Scammers

According to other news sources, a home in Shenango Township was robbed during what appeared to be a burglary scam. Reports state that last Thursday a man, described as a skinny white male with acne, driving a black SUV, went to the victim’s home in the area of Old Butler Road claiming to be an electric company worker. The victim asked the man for credentials that the man failed to provide, but he was still able to convince the victim to allow him access into the backyard to conduct a survey. Ellwood City Area School District Negotiations Update

To provide the public with accurate information regarding the status and progress of the negotiations between the School District and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 32BJ (hereinafter referred to as “Union”), the Board is posting this Negotiations Update which summarizes the Board’s efforts to reach a new Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Union. Since January 2017, the Board has attempted to negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement with the District’s custodians, cafeteria employees, instructional assistants and clerical employees all of which are represented by the Union.
