Improving Junior High Softball Team Suffers 8-6 Loss vs. Seneca Valley

After four straight lopsided losses, the Lady Wolverines showed significant improvement as they battled Seneca Valley Tuesday afternoon. After walking 10 batters in the first two innings and spotting the Raiders a 6-0 lead, the young pitching staff led by Madi Krugh, yielded just one more free pass and two additional runs over the final four frames. The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City Borough Council meeting on April 18: Visitors [added at 11 p.m.] Paul Dici read a letter from Senator Elder Vogel’s office that a search of Pennsylvania Unified Judaical System turns up no records concerning Dici. This was in response to comments from former council member Ralph Chiappetta, who said he had once filed charges against Dici. Ellwood Boys Tennis Falls to Quaker Valley

The Ellwood City boys tennis team lost a home match against Quaker Valley 0-5 on Friday. The doubles teams of Zain Ansari/Alex Scott and Christian Covert/Alex Vardzel played competitive rounds against the Quaker teams but ultimately lost. The singles matches by Christian Mittica, Trey Houk and Patric, Pawlak also came up short. The tennis team travels to Beaver Falls on Thursday. Ellwood City Track Teams Sweep Beaver Falls

The Ellwood City boys and girls track teams both defeated Beaver Falls in a home meet on Thursday, April 14. For the girls, Golide Bookamer swept the three distance events and the pole vault. Taylor Petrak won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, and Emily Brown won the shot put and javelin throws. For the boys, River Kelly won the javelin while taking second in the discuss and shot put. Ellwood City School Board Meeting Brief for April

The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City Area School Board meeting held on April 14: Recognition: The board recognized junior Taylor Petrak for finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle at the swimming PIAA Championship at Bucknell University. Four Students Advance to K’NEX STEM Competition at Harrisburg

The 5th grade team of Maddy McCommons, Grady Smith, Hunter Rock and Hayden Slade won the K’NEX STEM Design Challenge at Penn State Beaver and will advance to the state competition on May 13 at Harrisburg. The team’s creation, the Bio Aquatic Research Facility (BARF), was required to be three meters tall, hold weights and be environmentally sound.  


Ellwood Boys and Girls Track Results from Laurel Meet

The Ellwood City boys and girls track teams lost to Laurel at a home meet on Tuesday. However, Ellwood athletes captured several first places. For the boys, distance runner Billy Lott won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs while participating in a winning 4×800 meter relay team.
