Annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest Returns October 4th

Conceived by Wolves Club member Matt Walley in 2010, the Annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest turns 15 years old this year. It started out as a fundraiser for the club with games, local brewers, craft beers and food. Donnie Iris, member of the 1970s band Jaggerz made an appearance in 2011 with samples of his beer King Cool Light. The event benefitted the Library, Christmas in the Park and Wolves Club Scholarships. In 2012, the Wolves Club built relationships with other service clubs in the area. Halftime Lead Evaporates, Wolverines Fall To Neshannock

Ellwood City entered halftime of Friday night’s non-section match-up against Neshannock up two touchdowns, but the visiting Lancers rallied and knocked off the Wolverines 26-20 at Helling Stadium. Ethan Beaman hauled in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Jino Mozzocio with only 13 seconds remaining in regulation to provide the decisive score. Lin Goes Low, Ellwood City Golf Knocks Off Riverside

Wolverine golfer Alex Lin fired a low round of 34 Thursday afternoon at Connoqunessing Country Club to lead the visiting Ellwood City boys golf team to a 191-222 victory over rival Riverside. Lin was among a cavalry of Ellwood City golfers who shot sub-40 in the victory. Jaxon Rozanski (35) and Jordan Keller (39) joined Lin with strong rounds for Ellwood City. ECASD Transition to ABC Transit Experiencing Growing Pains

In a statement released by the Ellwood City Area School District on Thursday, the district is clear in acknowledging the transition to ABC Transit has had some early growing pains. Tar and chipping is tentatively scheduled for several roadways in Franklin Township beginning today. Tar & Chipping is tentatively scheduled for the week of September 2nd for the following roads: Butler, Chateau, Circle, County Line, Emerald, Fire, Forest Grove, Frances, Franklin, Glad, Hansen, Knox, Lillyville, Lookout, Morningstar, Morrison, Nicholson, Pander Hollow, Pinshot, Raymond, Rose, Silver, Stiefel, Tara, Vine Way, and Virginia. The township asks that residents and drivers please do not park on the road or mow grass clippings onto the road. Overnight Explosion Destroys Former Walnut Ridge School and Brew Pub

As first reported overnight by multiple news outlets, an explosion rocked the former Walnut Ridge Elementary school and home of The Time Brew Pub. The building was left with significant damage after a reported gas explosion took place shortly after midnight Tuesday. There were no initial reports of injuries. Columbia Gas was called to the scene as were Ellwood City police and the Pennsylvania state police fire marshal.
