Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Donley of Land ‘O Lakes, Florida, and formerly of Ellwood City, passed away on July 14, 2025 at the age of 92. She was born in Ellwood City on September 17, 1933 to Katherine and Oliver Miller. She had one brother, Robert Miller, who predeceased her. She is now re-united with her beloved husband, Herbert “Gene” H. Donley, Jr., who passed away on March 21, 2009. They had been married for 58 years. 74th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Begins Monday Night

The 74th Ellwood City Little League Tournament will begin Monday evening, July 14th with a double-header on tonight at Freidhoff Field. Central Valley will meet Neshannock at 5:45 PM and Ellwood City will meet New Castle at 8:00 PM. The tournament, the second oldest Little League tournament in the country next to the Little League World Series, began in 1952. Mary Jean Schlemmer, 95, of Zelienople, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, while under the care of Passavant Retirement Community. Born September 6, 1929, in Harmony, she was the daughter of the late William Stanley and Mary Ann Buehler Wilson. Mary Jean was heavily involved in her community. She was formerly a faithful member of Bell Memorial Methodist Church in Ellwood City. Mary Jean was a member of several organizations, including the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary. A team of amazing rescue workers helped rescue a service dog that went missing in the community. In 1950, Ellwood City became the fifth league to be chartered in Western Pennsylvania and the first in Lawrence, Beaver, Butler and Mercer Counties. Borough of Ellwood City Continuing To Seek Supplies To Support IRT Mission

Ellwood City has been selected for an Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) mission through the U.S. Department of Defense. The mission’s name is Operation Healthy Ellwood and from July 23rd to August 1st the borough will have approximately 200 reservists from all branches of the military present in our town.
