EllwoodCity.org’s Annual Halloween Costume Contest

It’s that time of the year again, EllwoodCity.org will be holding our annual Halloween Costume Contest.  Each year we have received dozens of entries – now let’s make this year even more spooky! Submissions begin on October 30th and go on through end-of-business hours on Friday, November 1st. All submitted photos will appear on EllwoodCity.org’s Facebook page on Monday, November 5 as a photo gallery. Then, voting will begin as soon as the gallery is published and continues on until 8:00 a.m. the following Monday, November 11. Mayor Court Announces Weekly Radio Show

Mayor Anthony Court announced this week an upcoming radio show on local channel 107.3 WXED. Court’s Weekly Community Update Radio Show on WXED 107.3 will air three times weekly. Air times will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday. “I believe this is a good way to keep the residents of Ellwood City informed and involved in what is going on in the community,” said Court in a statement. First United Methodist To Host Annual Turkey Dinner

First United Methodist Church of Ellwood City is hosting its 42nd annual turkey dinner on Saturday, November 2, 2019. The event is scheduled to be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the church located at 416 Crescent Avenue in Ellwood City. PHOTOS: Annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade

In what may feel like annual conditions, wet weather and rain met those who paraded Lawrence Avenue on Saturday as part of the annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade. Many onlookers grabbed an umbrella and jacket to enjoy costumes, candy, and floats. The parade began at Holy Redeemer and continued west on Lawrence Avenue to 8th Street before returning on Crescent Avenue. Many area Trick or Treats are scheduled for Thursday evening. The Borough of Ellwood City will hold trick or treating from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.


Glenys Nicholas Haine, 89

Glenys Nicholas Haine, age 89, of Kissimmee, Florida, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Her parents immigrated to America from a small coal-mining village in Penrhiwceiber, South Wales. (1921)   They settled in the small town of Ellwood City in Western Pennsylvania. It was there that Glenys was born on June 21, 1930.  Glenys attended West End Elementary, Hartman Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, in 1948.  She was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, and also a member of their church choir.  She always said one of her favorite memories,…


PA Water Announces Community Open House At New $50 Million Water Treatment Plant

NEW BEAVER, Pa.  – Pennsylvania American Water announced today that the company will be hosting a community open house at its recently completed $50 million water treatment plant on Saturday, Nov 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Located in New Beaver Borough, the new treatment facility serves approximately 18,000 customers in southern Lawrence and Butler Counties and northeastern Beaver County. Skyler Fox Wins PIAA Class 2A Golf Championship

Riverside senior Skyler Fox has won the 2019 PIAA Class 2A Golf Championship held at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York, PA this week. Fox fired a 1-over round of 72 on the second day of the tournament, separating himself from the field in winning by three strokes. The Riverside Panthers used another air attack to defeat Valley Friday night, 24-14 on senior night. Ben Hughes threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns to lead Riverside (6-2) to the nonconference win against Valley (1-8). Nathan Sciarro caught eight passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns and added a 27-yard field goal.
