Ellwood City Homecoming Queen & King Announced

Congratulations are in order for the 2020 Ellwood City Homecoming Queen and King! The winners were announced Friday night during the Ellwood City varsity football game at Helling Stadium that pitted the Wolverines against Beaver Falls.  Ellwood City was defeated 54-26 in the football contest. The game was streamed on the EC Wolverines YouTube.com webpage while the ceremony and crowning was live streamed on the Ellwood City Cheerleaders Facebook Page. Wampum Announces Cancellation of Christmas Parade

In a post on social media Sunday, the Wampum Area Christmas Parade Committee (WACP) announced the cancellation of their annual Christmas Parade. “After much consideration. The Wampum Area Christmas Parade Committee regrets that we made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Christmas Parade.” The message was announced by Donna Kuiken, long-standing WACP President. “No one is more disappointed than we are to cancel this event. Ellwood City Public Library To Open By Appointment

The Ellwood City Area Public Library will be open by appointment only starting Tuesday September 29, 2020. Call the library to set up an appointment to browse for books or use a computer. Anything printed must be paid for with exact change or check. We will not be making copies at this time. Newspapers and magazines will not be available. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. It is mandatory that everyone wear a mask at all times when entering the building. BC3 Program To Help New Workplace Leaders in Lawrence, Mercer Counties

New Castle, PA) A Lawrence County native who earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership will help emerging workplace leaders in Lawrence and Mercer counties to develop supervisory skills through a Butler County Community College certificate program that begins in October and will be held for the first time in at least five years at BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing. The annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade was cancelled per a social media posting this week by the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce and its Ellwood City Parades account. According to the post, “We are sorry to announce that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Halloween Parade has been CANCELLED. This decision was not an easy one however our continued concern for the health and well-being of the community is our number one priority. LOCAL SPORTS: EC Girls Tennis Defeats Riverside, Girls Volleyball Stays Unbeaten

The Ellwood City Girls Varsity tennis team came away with a 4-1 victory over rival Riverside on Monday. The visiting Wolverines used strong efforts by Maddy McCommons in singles play and Cassidy Navolio and Anna Williams in doubles to earn the victory. GOLF ROUND-UP: EC Boys Victorious, Girls Narrowly Defeated

The Ellwood City boys golf team continued its strong play with another victory this week, defeating Mohawk 223-241 at Delmar Golf Course.  The girls golf team fell victim to Elizabeth Forward on Tuesday and, in an even closer match, were defeated by Central Valley in a playoff on Thursday. Beaver Valley Interchange on PA Turnpike to Be Closed Weekdays

According to a news release made available this week, a three-week closure is needed for resurfacing project at the Beaver Valley Interchange on PA Turnpike.  The release reads as follows: The Pennsylvania Turnpike is alerting motorists of a three-week closure of the Beaver Valley Interchange, Exit #13, in Beaver County.  Motorists will not be able to enter or exit the Turnpike at the Beaver Valley Interchange weekdays starting Sept. 21 through Oct. 9. Crews will be reconstructing the shoulders and resurfacing the ramps that lead to and from the interchange. The work will stop Friday evenings allowing traffic through the…
