Panthers, Wolverines Baseball Teams Both Victorious

Both the Riverside Panthers and Ellwood City Wolverines collected victories Tuesday afternoon. Wolverines Claim Lead In Extra Inning To Defeat New Brighton Ellwood City snatched the lead late in the game in an 11-4 victory over New Brighton on Tuesday. The game was tied at four after seven innings before the Wolverines exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning. The offensive firepower by Ellwood City was led by Sammy DiCaprio, James Meehan, Nico DeCaria, Bucky Biskup, and Ryan Gibbons, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. REMINDER: Military Banner Submission Deadline Approaching

The Military Banners Programs approved by the Borough of Ellwood City earlier this year has a deadline fast approaching. “As some people may have heard the military banner project did get approved by council and with this, forms have been flowing in,” says organizer Gabby Gretch. After meeting with the local company responsible for printing the banners we discussed that all forms need to be submitted in to the P.O. Cory Michael Kinder, 32

Cory Michael Kinder, 32, of Pershing Street, Ellwood City, passed away at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, on Friday April 2, 2021. Born in New Castle on Aug. 25, 1988, he was the son of Michele Renee Kinder Caravella. Cory was a kind, special young man. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Ellwood City, include two sisters, Chelsea (Kyle) Lindey of Grove City and Cierra Caravella of Ellwood City; his grandparents, Mike and Peggy Kinder of Mercer; and two uncles, three nieces and two cousins. For twelve years the people of Lawrence County gave me the opportunity to serve as one of the County Commissioners. I am very grateful for that opportunity. Riverside Wins Wild 15-13 Slugfest Over Ellwood City

In a rivalry game that saw two wild rallies and 30 combined hits, the Riverside Panthers responded last in its 15-13 road victory over Ellwood City on Saturday. After taking a 7-5 lead in the top half of the fourth inning, only to surrender eight runs in the bottom half, the Panthers rallies late with a seven run fifth inning to take its final lead in the contest. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Amber Marie Russo, 30, of New Castle, is charged with one count of criminal mischief after police responded to a residence in Hickory Township, Lawrence County. According to a state police report, New Castle police responded to the residence on March 26 at midnight and, upon further investigation, discovered Russo had shattered a glass pane upon a window at the residence belonging to her former paramour, a 27-year-old male from New Castle. COACH TALK: Riverside Softball Looking For New Wave of Success

The Riverside Panthers softball team will be welcomed with an onslaught of younger, talented players this year according to head coach Gerilynn Cummings.
