ROUND-UP: Clean Sweep For Ellwood City Sports On Thursday

Ellwood City posted a clean sweep Thursday afternoon with girls tennis, co-ed golf, and volleyball all collecting victories. The Ellwood City Girls Tennis Team defeated Beaver Falls 5-0 to even their record to 1-1 on the season.  Maddy McCommons (6-1, 6-0) and Rylea Heitzenrater (6-0, 6-0) collected singles victories. Olivia Andrew and Savannah Holsinger (6-0, 6-0) posted a victory in doubles. Two forfeits aided the Wolverines victory. Lawrence County Awarded $1.8M For Renter Assistance

Lawrence County has been awarded $1,782,453.64 to assist renters who have experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19 with rent and utility payments. County Commission Morgan Boyd made the brief announcement on his social media page Wednesday evening. Ellwood City & Riverside Girls Volleyball Seasons Underway

Both local girls volleyball teams have started their respective regular season campaigns this month. Ellwood City has seen significant gains in its short program history while the Riverside girls are starting their own journey with the launch of their volleyball program. For the Wolverines, their volleyball program has ascended to new levels over the past few years. After reaching the WPIAL quarterfinals (and losing to North Catholic) in 2019, Ellwood City broke through for its first semifinal win and championship match appearance last year. Club Hope Founder Nominated For Woman of Courage Award

Club Hope Foundation founder Cara Atkinson has been nominated and chosen for the top of of the 2021 Woman of Courage Award through the Pink Pamper Foundation. This award is given yearly at the Pink Pamper’s Annual Bubble Ball, which will be held this year on Friday, October 8th at the Doubletree Hotel in Cranberry. The nominees were selected by a committee through the Pink Pamper non-profit and the winner is selected through a system of voting online. ELLWOOD WOMAN CHARGED IN CAPITOL RIOTS: Julia Jeanette Sizer of Ellwood City surrendered Thursday morning on multiple charges as a result of her attendance at the January Capitol riots. According to court documents, Sizer entered the Capitol eight minutes after the “original surge” forced their way through the door and stayed in the Senate Press Gallery foyer for less than three minutes before leaving the building.
