Mayor Court Announces 5th Beautification Winner

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented the 5th 2023 Beautification Award to “Roach” and Fran Boariu on Line Avenue. Mayor Court stated “ Looks great! A lot of work and it shows. Congratulations, Roach and Fran!” The Boariu’s were presented with a yard sign to display and a gift certificate from a local restaurant. Bernstine Announces Free Shredding Event for Constituents in the 8th Legislative District HARRISBURG – In an effort to bring greater awareness to identity theft crime, Rep. The Ellwood City Community Health Foundation (ECCHF) will issue scholarships each year to individuals who enroll in higher education to pursue a career in the medical field. The individual needs to be a resident of either Ellwood City, Lawrence County, or Beaver County, Pennsylvania. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

HARASSMENT: On June 16th at approximately 4:23 p.m., PA State Police New Castle investigated a report of harassment via electronic device. A 62-year-old male victim who resides on Ellwood Road, Wayne Township reported to have received threatening text messages from a known individual. According to the report, the message were sent for no legitimate purpose, and caused alarm to the victim and his family. A 35-year-old male from Edinburg, PA is listed as an arrestte in the public information report. The investigation is ongoing. PHOTOS: Boariu Wins 2023 Little Miss Firecracker

Reagan Boariu won the 2023 Little Miss Firecracker title this past weekend at the Ellwood City Festival. The 8-year-old garnered the crown during the 6th Annual Little Miss Firecracker pageant held on Friday, June 30th at the Folino Stage in Ewing Park.  The pageant is part of the annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food & Entertainment Festival. Reagan is the daughter of Eric and April Boariu. She dazzled the judges with her patriotic tutu ensemble and bubbly personality. She did a winning curtesy at the judges on stage. Wren Cortez won patriotic spirit award. Brianna Hoffmeier won 1st runner up….

Borough Needs Volunteers To Help Fill Planter Boxes

The Borough of Ellwood City is looking for volunteers to help fill their downtown planter boxes. Last month, the borough received a $2,000.00 2023 National Pennsylvania Day Mini Grant from America250PA and EQT Corporation, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and in support of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. The grant funds will be utilized to assist with costs to replace planter boxes along Lawrence Avenue, the town’s main street. “The event is a community revitalization effort around businesses and organizations, we believe it will be a great way to revitalize our main corridor,” said Kevin Swogger, borough manager. Thousands of visitors flocked to the grounds to enjoy local food, crafts, and plenty of entertainment during the 2023 Ellwood City Arts, Crafts & Foods Festival. While warm and clear weather greeted patrons on Friday, heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday made for a soggy end to the annual festival.  Amid the rain on Sunday, the scheduled fireworks took place as scheduled. Reagan Boariu was named the 2023 Little Miss Firecracker on Friday while Asa Equels, 29, of Wilmington, Delaware, won the annual Ellwood City Ledger 10k race on Saturday.
