POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

HARRASSMENT: According to a police report, and on September 21st at approximately 9:35 a.m., two neighbors in New Beaver Borough got into a disturbance that turned into physical assault. New Castle State Police were dispatched to the disturbance between the neighbors and on scene it was found that a 31-year-old female was assaulted by the male neighbor and threaten by another male. Charges for harassment were filed on both arrestee’s out of Judge Jerry Cartwright’s office. Mayor Court Presents Proclamation To Eric Rayner

Mayor Anthony J. Court presents a proclamation to Eric Rayner for his volunteer work in Ellwood City. Rayner has raised over $11,230.00 to continue the tradition of the Ellwood City festival fireworks through various fundraisers in the community including band bash events. The 2021 Ellwood City Fall Band Bash is scheduled in October. Mr. Rayner is now in the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, and Food Festival Hall of Fame. Lincoln High School will celebrate its 65th Annual Homecoming on Friday, October 1st, when the Ellwood City Wolverines host the Neshannock Lancers at Helling Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Homecoming Queen’s Court will be announced on the field during pre-game ceremonies that begin at 6:30 p.m., and the 2021 Homecoming Queen will be crowned during halftime. Route 288 Realignment Project Ongoing, On Track For Completion As Scheduled

Barring any unforeseen field issues, the realignment and construction of Route 288 near the Zelienople Airport in on track for completion as scheduled. The roadway is currently closed and under detour as part of a 102-day closure for the realignment project. According to PENNDOT spokesperson Steve Cowan, the contractor anticipates completing the work within the contract parameters. Joe Neubert, project manager for Independence Excavating, announced the parameters in July, with the anticipated re-opening date of on or before October 28, 2021 “As of [Tuesday], all mass excavation activities are complete,” says Cowan. “Concrete pipe work is finished on Route 288 and…

SPORTS: Spadafore, Crizer Lead XC To Victory, EC Golf & Volleyball Defeated

A second place finish by Anthony Spadafore and strong performance by Colton Crizer led Ellwood City to its cross country victory on Tuesday at Laurel. Ellwood City defeated host Laurel, (17-44), Union (15-50), and Freedom (15-50) at the meet. Spadafore finished with a time of 18:15, good for 2nd place, while Joel Brooks (18:23, 3rd place), Crizer (18:31, 4th place), Ian Stoneking (19:33, 6th place), and Nick Wise (19:39, 7th place) helped in the victory. “Crizer ran a great race,” said head coach Mark Hall. Paul “Dodds” Johnson Sr., 83

Mr. Paul “Dodds” Johnson Sr., 83, Of Ellwood City passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at the UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Mr. Johnson was born in Pittsburgh on April 20, 1938 to the late Thomas and Josephine (Fowler) Johnson, and was an Elementary School teacher, Auctioneer, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Best Friend. He grew up in Zelienople, went to college in Edinboro (his favorite days) then to his farm in Fombell, PA where he raised his children. He loved music and could sing like an angel. Holy Redeemer Social Club Planning Annual Casino Trip

The Holy Redeemer Social Club is planning its annual trip to Seneca Niagara next month. The trip is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 10, 2021. The cost is $40.00 to join the casino trip.  The fee includes $25.00 in free play at the casino. “We have a few seats left,” says event organizer, John Pansera. Anthony (Tony) F. Scala, 87

Anthony (Tony) F. Scala, 87 of Harrisburg, PA, formally of Ellwood City, PA passed away peacefully, at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital surrounded by his family on September 16, 2021, after an unexpected battle with cancer. Tony was born in Ellwood City, PA, to the late Frederick and Felicia (Fabian) Scala. He graduated from Lincoln High School and attended the Police Academy in Hershey, PA. On August 18th, 1956, he married his wife Janet who survives at home and has remained his sweetheart of 65 years.
