One Charged After Car Crash on July 4

Ivy Frederick was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after making a too sharp turn and hitting another vehicle. Jessica and Mark Bucci were parked at the stop sign heading west on Wayne Avenue when a red Cadillac Escalade made a too sharp turn and struck their vehicle. Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to Frederick about hitting the other vehicle. Officers noticed Frederick was stumbling on her words numerous times and was unable to maintain balance at all times throughout the course of investigating the accident. RECAP: The Ellwood City Carpenter’s Project 17th Year

For five days each summer, the Ellwood City Carpenter’s Project teams up with churches around the area to complete exterior house projects throughout Ellwood City and Riverside school districts. This year the project is taking place from July 9 to 13. The Carpenter’s Project started back in 2002 when Chuck and Marsha Timblin of Calvin Presbyterian Church of Ellwood City wanted to see their church and other local churches come together for one summer to help those in the community who were either physically or financially unable to fix their homes on their own. One Man Charged in Connection With Ellwood City High Speed Chase on July 4

Ellwood City Police are looking for a driver who sent them on a high speed chase on the Fourth of July. Police have filed charges against 22-year-old Isiah Nathaniel Carr of 1866 W. Lawrence Ave. regarding the alleged pursuit. District Judge Jerry G. Cartwright has issued a warrant for his arrest. On officer patrolling in an unmarked cruiser saw a maroon van speeding through the lot of the Seven Eleven convince store just after 2:00am on July 4th. The Carpenter’s Project is a group of volunteers that are spreading out around the community this week to paint, remove brush and fix lose boards etc. at peoples homes. There are 19 crews working together to help the homeowners out. Below we have photos taken from the Line Ave. and Massachusetts St. locations. The crew on Line Ave is scraping and repainting the homeowners porch and nailing down loose boards. The Crew on Massachusetts St. is clearing out overgrown shrubby for the homeowner.  


Ellwood City Fire Department Gets a Makeover

The Ellwood City Fire Department has gotten a makeover, and the old stucco siding that lined the building of the department has now been replaced by a powder blue siding. The fire department is a combination fire department, which means they have both paid and volunteer firefighters. They are one of 2 in the County that have paid staff. New Castle City has a full time fire department and does not have volunteers. Each year the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Western PA selects 50 people to represent Pittsburgh while raising awareness through fundraising events  for Cystic Fibrosis. Popular Bluegrass Band Allegheny Drifters Set to Perform at Ellwood City Festival The Allegheny Drifters are a Bluegrass band originating in Western Pennsylvania. The Band is set to perform at the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food and Entertainment Festival on June 30 at 3:30 p.m. In 2002, veteran western Pennsylvania bluegrass mandolinist Bob Artis was invited to put together a one-show-only bluegrass band to perform with the Pittsburgh Mandolin Orchestra at their debut concert to be held in April 2003. ROAR Touch a Truck Event

The Riverside nonprofit organization, ROAR, is hosting a “Touch a Truck” event on July 17 as part of their annual fundraising activities. ROAR is a private, non-profit community initiative, working in cooperation with Riverside Beaver County School District. Riverside Memorial Stadium has no public rest facilities. The athletes, marching band, cheerleaders, students, fans, family members and visiting guests have only a few rented, portable public toilets available. In addition, the athletes do not have a sheltered area to gather before, during or after their games or events.
