Rotary Club of Ellwood City Awards Winning Students At Scholarship Dinner

The tables were packed and the plates full as the Rotary Club of Ellwood City celebrated award winning students at their annual Scholarship Dinner. Students from the Ellwood City Area and Riverside School Districts and their parents were in attendance on Thursday May 21st.

In addition to the Club’s scholarships, 2 additional memorial Trade School Scholarships were awarded in memory of Conner Lutz, who would have graduated this year. Conner was a vibrant young man who planned on going into the trades upon graduation. The scholarships were sponsored by his grandfather who is also a fellow Rotarian in Zelienople. Don Ridgley wanted to celebrate his grandson in a special way.

After the dinner, Mark Smith, Scholarship Chair explained the process of choosing the recipients and acknowledge the committee for their diligence. Each student was presented with a check and some Rotary goodies. This years recipients are as follows:

LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL
Baccalaureate Scholarship – Mia Meredith, Penn State University
Award: $1,000 Chemistry

Community College Scholarship – Bryce Steffler, Butler County Community College
Award: $1,000 Nursing

RIVERSIDE HIGH SCHOOL
Baccalaureate Scholarship – Nathaniel Goff, Westminster College
Award: $1,000 Political Science / Pre-Law

Community College Scholarship – Addison Wright, Community College of Beaver County
Award: $1,000 Nursing

EC Rotary Trade School Scholarship – Alora George, Bella Capelli Academy
Award: $1,000 Cosmetology

Conner Lutz Memorial Trade School Scholarship – Nathan Chandler, New Castle School of Trades
Award: $1,000 Building Technology

Conner Lutz Memorial Trade School Scholarship (Connor Lutz Memorial) – Gretta Heffern, Laurel Institute of Technology
Award: $1,000 Cosmetology

Each student gave a short speech about their education and future plans. Not all students were able to attend this meeting and a couple of them will be scheduled at a later date. In addition, Mark Smith was able to attend each schools awards ceremonies to present each winner with a Certificate to honor their award.
