McQuistion, Lady Wolverines Shutout Hopewell; Boys Baseball Shares Section Title

Amber McQuistion shined on the rubber Tuesday afternoon, tossing a complete game three hitter as Ellwood City shut out Hopewell 5-0.

McQuistion struck out 12 batters and did not issue a walk.

The senior also doubled and walked three times at the plate.

Crystal Folino and Alexis Beck each collected two hits to power the Wolverines offense. Ellwood City exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Folino tripled while Taylor Hoffman doubled to join McQuistion with extra base hits.

Ellwood City (6-4 Overall, 5-3 Section) next plays Avonworth on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at New Castle – George Washington Intermediate Field.

WOLVERINES FALL TO MOHAWK, SHARE SECTION TITLE

Ellwood City fell to Mohawk 7-3 Tuesday afternoon at Sanders Field in the second game of their two-game series to tie the Warriors for the AAA Section One title.

The 2nd-ranked Wolverines and the 4th-ranked Warriors ended the regular season with identical 8-2 records to gain the co-championship.

The crown was Ellwood City’s first since 2012 and the 24th in school history. Both teams will now enter the WPIAL playoffs.

Geordyn Bokor led Ellwood City with a triple, two singles and two RBIs. Jake Biskup singled twice and Cameron Mills added a single. Mykal Cuevas walked and added a run-scoring sacrifice fly.

Nate Kennedy took the loss on the mound for the Wolverines, offering 6.1 innings of work, striking out six Warriors. Mills picked up 0.2 innings of relief work for Ellwood City.

The Wolverines (14-3 Overall) next will travel to Neshannock on May 6th for a non-section match up versus the Lancers.
