77th Ellwood City Little League Season Opener Held Tuesday

The Moose downed the Lions 6-1 in the 77th Ellwood City Little League opener at Freidhoff Field Tuesday night.

The Ellwood City Little League is one of the oldest leagues in Western Pennsylvania and was organized in 1950. The opening game Tuesday matched the two remaining original sponsors from the inaugural season.

Ellwood City participates in the Lawrence County Little League.

Ryan Bales led the Moose with a home run, double and single. Alexander Casas-Cordero, Jace Vandevort and Gage Pflugh added doubles. Braxton Hogue and Luke Johnston singled for the Moose.

Rocco Gagric and Hunter Illig led the Lions with two singles apiece. Giovannni Lamenza added a single.

Bales was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts in two innings. Hogue fanned four batters in two innings of relief. Pflugh struck out five batters in two innings to close out the win.
