Ellwood City took care of business in their home opener on Friday afternoon, coming out on top against the Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers by a score of 5-1.
Nate Kennedy struck out 10 batters over 5.1 innings to earn the victory. Kennedy allowed only three hits and one run.
Cameron Mills made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mills was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Aaron Lake added two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Jordan Keller got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
The Wolverines jumped on the board early with three runs in the first inning as Keller singled to center, Mills walked, and Kennedy grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.
Chartiers-Houston is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Ellwood City will head out to challenge Hopewell at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
