Panthers Stay Unbeaten With Victory Over Shenango; Ellwood City Falls To Neshannock

Riverside took a late lead to defeat Shenango 6-3 on Tuesday to remain unbeaten on the regular season.

The game was tied at two in the bottom of the sixth when Panther slugger Bo Fornataro singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs as part of the four run inning that pushed the host Panthers ahead 6-2.

After Shenango opened up the scoring with a run in the top half of the third inning, Riverside responded with the long ball. Hunter Garvin smacked a two run homer in the bottom half of the frame to put the Panthers ahead 2-1 after three innings.

In the top of the fourth inning, Shenango tied things up at two when Grayson Hooks singled on the first pitch of his at-bat, scoring one run.  The Wildcats plated one more run in the top of the seventh in a rally attempt but Garvin slammed the door in his relief pitching effort. Garvin threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Ronnie Harper earned the win for Riverside. The lefty surrendered three runs on six hits over six and a third innings, striking out six.  Braden Zeigler took the loss for Shenango. The hurler went six innings, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out five.

Evan Burry went 2-for-4 at the plate to help lead the Panthers offense. Benny Santangelo led Shenango with two hits in three at bats.

Riverside (6-0 Overall) next travels to Shenango Wednesday afternoon to resume section play against the Wildcats.

Ellwood City Falls To Neshannock

The Wolverines fell behind early in their 8-3 defeat at the hands of Neshannock on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lancers jumped out to an early 8-0 lead before the visiting Wolverines could get on the score board.  Ellwood City scored one run in the fifth and two runs in the seventh innings after Neshannock put up five of its eight runs in the third inning.

Isaiah Lutz shined at the plate for the Wolverines, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances. Lutz finished with three singles, a walk, and two RBIs on the afternoon. Jordan Keller and Aaron Lake each collected singles and scored a run each for Ellwood City.

Frye pitches 6.2 innings for the victory for Neshannock on the mound. Fryer struck out seven batters while allowing only three hits and no earned runs.

Ellwood City (0-5 Section 1-3A, 1-7 Overall) will try to exact revenge against the Lancers on Wednesday as they host Neshannock at 4:30 PM at Sanders Field, in Ellwood City.
