Riverside Rolls by Union 15-3; Ellwood City Blasts Beaver Falls 11-1

Both Riverside and Ellwood City varsity softball teams had great wins on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers won big on the road at Union Area High School while the Wolverines had a victory against Beaver Falls on their home field at Stiefel Park.

Rosenberger Delivers Four Hits to Riverside Panthers Varsity Victory Over Union Area 

Sam Rosenberger delivered at the plate on Tuesday with her four hits to help the Panthers get a big 15-3 win over Union Area High School. Rosenberger doubled in the third, singled in the fourth, singled in the sixth, and singled in the seventh. She led the Panthers in hits, having four hits in five at bats, stolen bases with three, and RBI’s with four.

The Panthers had 18 hits in the seven inning game. Rosenberger, Carlee Crawford, Aliya Ottaviani, Stormy Fedder, Emma Beachem, and Tayrn Schmidt all collected multiple hits.

Ottaviani earned the win for the Panthers on the mound only allowing only four runs over the course of seven innings and allowing three runs and striking out 10.

Halaena Blakley took the loss on the rubber for Union Area. Skylar Fisher went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Union Area in hits.

After a contest at home against New Brighton, the Panthers will travel to Neshannock on the 26th and then will come back home to play Shenango on the 28th.

Wolverines Topple Beaver Falls; Bring Record to 8-1

The Lady Wolverines softball team improved their record to 8-1 on the season as they defeated Beaver Falls 11-1 on Tuesday evening at Stiefel Park.

Once again, the Wolverines struck quickly with two runs in the first inning. With one out, Kyla Servick tripled to right field, then Aliya Garroway drove a fastball off the wall in right center for a double.

The Wolverines went up 4-0 in the second. With one out, both Julia Nardone and Keirs Rozanski got on base after being walked. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch, Angie Nardone brought them both in with a clutch single up the middle.

Ellwood City stretched the lead to 6-0 in the third inning. Garroway, Maria Ioanilli, Kali Barnett all reached base on walks.  Julia Nardone brought Garroway and Ioanilli home with a single up the middle.

The lead grew to 9-0 in the fourth.

Angie Nardone led off with a single and advanced to third on ground outs by Servick and Garroway. After Nardone scored on another wild pitch, Ioanilli reached on an infield single. She stole second base and scored on a triple by Mollie Street.

The Tigers scored a run in the fifth on a single, error, and an RBI groundout.

Ellwood City answered with a run of their own in the home half of the fifth to make it 10-1. With one out, Keira Rozanski reached second on a error by the third baseman and scored on a RBI single by Angie Nardone. The Wolverines made it an early game when they scored their 11th run in the 6th inning.

Six players combined for 10 hits on the day. Angie Nardone led with 3 singles, Street tripled and singled, Garroway doubled and singled, Servick tripled and Julia Nardone and Ioanilli contributed singles.

Freshman pitcher Julia Nardone enjoyed her most dominant performance to date as she pitched a two hitter in six innings of work. She gave up just one unearned run as she mowed down nine Tigers without issuing a free pass.

The Wolverines, now 8-1 on the year and 3-1 in the section, will travel to South Park on Friday for a 4:15 date with the Eagles.
