Ellwood City Historical Society Extends Annual Fund Drive To Sept. 30

The Ellwood City Historical Society annual fund drive goal was set at $10,000.00 but has not been reached as of the end of August.

“Again this year we turn to you, the membership and friends to ask for your continued support to help the Society meet its goals and help growth into the future,” says Andrew Kindle, Fund Drive Chairman.

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society started 38 years ago on February 12, 1988. Its purpose and goals are still the same, that is, the collecting, preserving, and promoting and sharing our history to the area and future generations.

An April 1994 Newsletter contained a message from the president, Andrew Kindle.  It reads as follows:

This is a very exciting time for the Ellwood City Area Historical Society. In 1988 when the Historical Society was founded, the idea of owning a building was just a dream. Now on April 15, 1994, seven years later, the Society will own the Stiefel building at 310 Fifth street. The building will be a meeting place, a museum, and a storage area for all our artifacts and memorabilia. This is really exciting, to think we will own a building with a history that will be preserved to serve the community ; a place where we can say to everyone, “COME HOME TO ELLWOOD CITY.”

As well as the advertisement that reads, “you’ve come a long way baby.” The Society has been a progressive and positive influence in the area and community of Ellwood City. ( newsletter April 4, 1994 )

The Historical Society serves its membership:

1. By providing a monthly newsletter, editor, Everett Bleakney.
2. Having guest speakers for programs eight times a year.
3. Open hours 10am to 2pm, Monday through Thursday. Open other times by appointment.
4. A proper archives collecting system for storage and displaying.

“We are developing a Touch Pro System to provide an easy process to retrieve many areas of accumulated data and info pertaining Ellwood City Area.,” says Kindle. “We plan to make greater use of our replica Trolley( ELLSWORTH) as a community outreach asset, look for us at the Chamber of Commerce events.”

The Society is alive and well but we need your help to maintain our goals. Please consider making a tax deductible gift and join in the ANNUAL FUND DRIVE.

“We do not receive State or Federal appropriations,” adds Kindle. “Your contributions are vital to our growth and long term sustainability.”
