The Franklin Township Board of Supervisors is seeking community support for an important initiative—the acquisition and preservation of the Hereford Manor Lake property.
Franklin Township currently has an agreement to purchase approximately 392 acres of the Hereford Manor property. With a $300,000 grant already secured, the Township has made significant progress; however, a funding gap remains. The agreement is set to expire on May 20, 2026, and a one-year extension has been requested to allow time to secure the remaining funds.
This property presents a unique opportunity to preserve valuable open space for public use. Planned future uses include walking and biking trails, horseback riding, wildlife habitat preservation, watershed protection, and environmental education. The Township is also exploring regulated recreational opportunities such as archery and youth hunting programs, with a strong focus on safety and conservation.
As many residents know, the lake was drained in 2011–2012 due to structural safety concerns with the dam. Since then, the Township has been exploring opportunities to preserve this property as public greenspace for the benefit of the community. The plan is to protect the land while providing recreational and educational opportunities for residents.
Residents are invited to consider making a voluntary donation to support this effort. Contributions will go directly toward the acquisition and long-term preservation of the Hereford Manor Lake property and help ensure it remains a resource for generations to come.
Checks may be made payable to Franklin Township. Donations for public greenspace may be tax-deductible for those who itemize; please consult a tax professional for details.

Thank you for your support in preserving Franklin Township’s natural resources.
