On Wednesday, May 31st, the Ellwood City Wolves Den II hosted a dinner to honor the recipients of the Wolves Club Scholarships for 2023. Ten Wolves Club Scholarships, with a value of $18,035, were awarded this year including three new ones.
Wolves Club president, Mike DeOtto commented, “Higher education puts students on the path to many different careers. We are honored to aid them so they can follow their dreams to achieve a successful future.”
Wolves Club director, Denny Boariu, was the master of ceremonies for the evening and gave an overview of the scholarship committee’s goals and commitment for this year’s scholarships awards. He mentioned that the Wolves Club nationwide has awarded about $3,000,000 in scholarships to students.
Two $5,000 scholarships were awarded: one to Lincoln high school senior Madilyn Galbreath and one to Riverside high school senior Samuel Kline.
Madylin, a daughter of Kathy Galbreath, plans to major in History at Grove City College.
Sam, a son of Kristie Kline, plans to attend The Ohio State University and study Aviation Engineering.
Two $1,200 scholarships were awarded funded by Dennis Gottusso a 1978 recipient: one to Lucy Palmer of Lincoln high school and one to Hayden Slade of Lincoln high school.
Lucy, a daughter of Erin and Doug Palmer, plans to study environmental science at Allegheny College. Hayden, a son of Doug and Jennifer Slade, plans to study computer science and mathematics at Notre Dame.
There were four $1,000 scholarships. These are funded in memory of past club members.
Grady Smith, a son of Doug and Jeanne Smith, of Lincoln high school was awarded the Carl Agostinelli scholarship. He plans to enter the Physician’s Assistant Program at Gannon University.
Lauren Bush, a daughter of Bill and Stacey Bush, of Riverside high school was awarded the Sam Teolis scholarship. She plans to study Environmental Science at Allegheny College.
Makenna Hamilton, a daughter of Stacy and Dave Hamilton, of Lincoln high school was awarded one of two Tony Celli scholarships. She will study Pharmacuetical Science at the University of South Carolina.
Gianna Fotia, a daughter of Joe and Lisa Fotia, of Lincoln high School was awarded the second Tony Celli scholarship. She will study statistics and data science at Robert Morris University.
Two current college students were awarded scholarships: one to Landyn McClean, a student at Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) for $750. Jordan is majoring in Nursing.
A $785 scholarship was given to Jordan Vandervort, a student at Butler County Community College (BC3).
Lincoln high school counselor April Thelman spoke on the community involvement of the awardees and presented the awards to the Lincoln high school seniors.
Riverside HS counselor Ben Huth spoke on the humility of the awardees and presented the awards to the Riverside high school seniors.
Development Associate-Assistant to CCBC President, Leanne Condron, accepted the CCBC award on behalf of Landyn.
Education Foundation Assistant Megan Covel, of Butler County Community College accepted the BCCC award on behalf of Jordan.
The scholarship awardees were invited to offer a few remarks. All focused on appreciation for the generous support of the Wolves Club scholarships enabling them to further pursue their educational goals.
For their contributions to the scholarship and grant program, a special note of appreciation was expressed, on behalf of the Wolves Club, by master of ceremonies Denny Boariu, to Dennis Gottuso, and to the Agostinelli, Celli and Teolis families.
Members of the club’s scholarship committee are Frank Aloi, John DiBuono, Chris Cioffi, Hank Glogowski and coordinator, Herman Petti Jr.
Reverend Jay Sterling, Pastor First United Methodist Church, gave the invocation and benediction.
The Wolves Club has awarded an estimated $300,000 in scholarships over the past years.
The Wolves Club has appreciated the support that both communities have given in their various fundraising projects throughout the year, such as; the food booth at the Annual Arts and Crafts Festival, the Oktoberfest and the Golf Bash. The money raised from these projects enabled the Wolves Club to provide scholarships to the students in the Ellwood City and Riverside Beaver School Districts.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Wolves Club should contact Mike DeOtto or Dennis Boariu. The Wolves Club meets at their Shelter in Ewing Park during the summer. Meetings start at 630PM on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.
