PART ONE: Lincoln High School’s Production of Godspell is a Godsend

Note: This review is part one of a three part series featuring Lincoln High School’s production of Godspell the musical. Parts two and three will feature Q&As with the cast members.

The Ellwood City Area School District will present the musical Godspell this weekend.

Anyone who questions the investment into arts and music in the schools really needs to take a seat in the audience and watch every single cast member come alive with creativity.

There aren’t really any over the top crazy costumes in this one, but the colorful fashions, iconic props, and magical music make this production a can’t miss and one you won’t soon forget.

Hunter Rock as Jesus and Hayden Slade as John the Baptist and Judas lead this cast flawlessly. They truly do captivate and draw in the audience. And speaking of drawing in the audience, there are opportunities for participation for musical goers too—but no spoiler alert here as I’ll leave the surprises for the show.

The ladies don’t disappoint either. Their voices angelic as they take on some of the beautiful songs that bring Godspell to life.

The set, although it seems simple, is quite impactful providing the perfect backdrop to the stories set forth (make sure to notice the shout out to Ellwood City hidden in the set).

The cast is stellar, and the music is memorable and features a score by three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz. Songs like “Day by Day,” “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “All Good Gifts,” “God Save the People,” and “Beautiful City,” help tell the story of a small group of everyday people who are working to bring the parables of Jesus Christ to life on the stage through humor, games, and storytelling techniques. The musical culminates with the events surrounding the last week of Jesus’ life as the cast spreads His message of unconditional love to all people.

Performances of Godspell will be held on Friday, November 11th at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 12th at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 13th at 2:00 p.m. Tickets prices are $12.00.
