EC Wolves Club Awards $15,935 In Scholarships To Lincoln and Riverside Seniors, CCBC & BC3 Students

On May 25, 2022 the Wolves Club held their annual scholarship dinner at the Connequennessing Country Club. Wolves Club Den II members, gathered to celebrate the awarding of $15,935 in scholarships to a total of 6 Lincoln and Riverside high school seniors and 2 current college students to help fund their higher education.

Wolves Club president, Mike DeOtto commented; “Higher education puts students on the path to many different careers. That commitment to higher learning will make them more competitive in the job market. We are honored to aid them so they can follow their dreams to achieve a successful future”.

Wolves Club director, Denny Boariu was the master of ceremonies for the evening and gave an overview of the scholarship committee’s goals and commitment for this year’s scholarships awards. He mentioned that there are a total of 11 Wolves Cub Dens and, over the years, nine million dollars in scholarships have been awarded. Mr. Boariu also talked about several upcoming events including the July 2, 3, 4 Festival, the Oktoberfest and our upcoming Wolves Club Den ll Seventy-Fifth Anniversary in 2023.

Two $5,000 scholarships were awarded: one to Lincoln high school senior Mark Van Horn and one to Riverside high school senior Emily Fox.

Mark Van Horn is the son of Randy Van Horn and Renee Pitrelli of Ellwood City. Mark plans to attend Grove City College and major in Electrical Engineering.

Emily Fox is the daughter of Tracy and Jerome Fox of Beaver Falls. Emily plans to attend Grove City College and major in English.

Two $1,200 scholarships were awarded funded by Dennis Gottusso a Wolves Club scholarship recipient back in 1978.The recipients of the $1,200 awards were Kiersten Whipple, a Riverside high school senior and Lincoln high school senior, Tyunna Jordan.

Kiersten Whipple is the daughter of Beth and Joe Whipple of Beaver Falls. Kiersten will attend Chatham University and declared a major in Interior Architecture.

Tyunna Jordan is the daughter of Natasha Hall of Ellwood City. She will attend Robert Morris University and major in Business Management.

Two $1,000 scholarships were presented: one to Lincoln high school senior Emma Wise in memory of Sam Teolis and to Riverside high school senior Megan Castelli in memory of Carl Agostinelli. Both Mr. Teolis and Mr. Agostinelli were long-time Wolves Club members who generously contributed and participated in all the club’s initiatives.

Emma Wise is the daughter of Gina and Ray Wise of Ellwood City. Emma plans to attend Penn State University and major in General Studies.

Megan Castelli is the daughter of Vickie and Jim Castelli of Fombell. Megan plans to attend George Washington University and major in Political Science.

Two current college students were awarded scholarships: one to Jordan Halstead, a student at Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) for $750. Jordan is majoring in Nursing.

A $785 scholarship was given to Scarlett Hazen, a student at Butler County Community College (BC3).

Teacher and school counselor April Thellman presented the awards to the Lincoln high school seniors; Riverside HS counselor Ben Huth presented the awards to the Riverside high school seniors; Development Associate-Assistant to CCBC President, Leanne Condron presented the CCBC award.

The scholarship awardees were invited to offer a few remarks. All focused on appreciation for the generous support of the Wolves Club scholarships enabling them to further pursue their educational goals. For their contributions to the scholarship and grant program, a special note of appreciation was expressed, on behalf of the Wolves Club, by master of ceremonies Denny Boariu, to Dennis Gottuso, and to the Teolis Family and the Agostinelli Family.

Members of the club’s scholarship committee are chairman-Nick Mancini, Frank Aloi, John DiBuono, Chris Cioffi, Hank Glogowski and coordinator, Herman Petti Jr.

Reverend Todd Custer, Pastor Christ Presbyterian Church, gave the invocation and benediction.
