It came down to the last play, but Riverside was on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to top-seeded Serra Catholic on Monday in the WPIAL Class-2A semifinals at Plum High School.
Serra Catholic advances to play Neshannock in the WPIAL Class-2A Championship Game next week.
The game was tied at five with Serra Catholic batting in the bottom of the seventh when Max Rocco singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
FINAL SCORE: Serra Catholic 6, Riverside 5.

Riverside got on the board in the first inning. Darren McDade’s sac fly scored one run for the Panthers.
Riverside had knotted the game up at five in the top of the sixth inning, when Evan Burry doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
After the Panthers scored one run in the top of the fourth, Serra Catholic answered with one of their own. Riverside scored when Zach Karp’s wild pitch allowed one run to score for the Panthers.
Serra Catholic scored three runs in the third inning. Serra Catholic scored its runs on a single by Matt Bisceglia.
Joe DeMoss got the win for Serra Catholic. The hurler surrendered one run on two hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking zero. Isiah Petty threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Christian Lucarelli took the loss for the Panthers. The righty surrendered one run on two hits over two and a third innings, striking out five.
Karp started the game for Serra Catholic. The bulldog lasted four innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out two and walking zero Ronnie Harper started the game for Riverside. Harper went two innings, allowing four runs on five hits and walking zero.
Riverside collected nine hits on the day. Burry (3-4, two 2Bs, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Sammy Barber all collected multiple hits for the Panthers. Madden Boehm and Bo Fornataro each stole two bases for the Panthers in defeat.
Serra Catholic scattered ten hits in the game. Eli Kite, DeMoss, Bisceglia , and Ethan Coddington each racked up multiple hits for Serra Catholic who advances to play Neshannock in the WPIAL Class-2A Championship Game at Wild Things Park. [VIEW FULL BRACKET]
