Mayor Anthony Court and Borough Council President, George Celli hosted members of Lawrence County ARISE to help kick off October as Domestic Violence Month as part of the “Our Community’s Response to Violence” campaign.
Yard signs, bows and purple light bulbs will once again be available at the agency, as well as distributed throughout the community. Arise will be placing bows and yard signs around Lawrence County.
ARISE – Our Community’s Response to Violence and Abuse – formerly called the Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County is the only domestic violence and sexual assault shelter in Lawrence County. Domestic Violence Awareness Month was launched nationwide in October 1987 as a way to connect and unite individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues while raising awareness for those issues.
Last month the Crisis Shelter announced its name change due to all of the educational, emotional support, and training programs the shelter offers, making it more than a crisis shelter.
