PHOTOS: Street, Wolverines Earn Another Upset In WPIAL Playoff Journey

The Lady Wolverines surged in the fourth inning to earn another upset in its WPIAL Class-3A playoff journey.

Ellwood City beat #3 seeded Waynesburg 7-4 on Thursday to advance to the WPIAL semifinals. Ellwood City beat higher seeded Deer Lakes on Tuesday.

After exchanging runs early, junior Mollie Street helped Ellwood City stage a four-run fourth inning to pull away from Waynesburg.

Ellwood City scored three runs in the first inning only to have Waynesburg score in each of its first two innings to tie the game at three entering the pivotal fourth inning.

In the fourth, a Kyla Servick double and an Aliya Garroway single each netted a run before Street pounded a two-run homerun.

Julia Nardone earned the victory for Ellwood City, scattering seven hits and four runs over her seven inning performance. Nardone struck out three and walked only one.

The Wolverines racked up ten hits in the contest. Garroway, Servick, Maria Ioanilli, and Angie Nardone all had two hits in the victory. Garroway knocked in a game-high three runs.

Ellwood City girls softball team will next face #7 seed Southmoreland on Tuesday, May 25th at 2:00 p.m. at Penn Trafford with a chance to advance to the WPIAL championship Game. Southmoreland upset North Catholic 11-5 in its quarterfinals match-up on Thursday.
