Ewing Park Gets ‘Paw-some’ New Addition Thanks to Reed’s Services

Life can be “Ruff.”

But not for the dogs in Ewing Park thanks to Reed’s Services. Located at the intersection near the Kids Creative Kingdom is a doggy destination: A new treat and waste station. The five-star, bright red, dog box is quite “fetching” and is full of yummy goodies.

Reed’s is known for supporting Ellwood City, in fact this treat station, fully funded and donated by Reed’s, was inspired by their Christmas Tree during Ewing Park’s Christmas in the Park. Instead of ornaments, their tree was adorned with dog treats and doggy popcorn garland.

“It was quite a hit,” according to Councilman Caleb Cragle.

Chad Reed, one of the owners of Reed’s Services, said the popularity of the Christmas tree sparked the idea to offer the treats more frequently than just during the Christmas season.

Joe Reed, Councilman Caleb Cragle, and Chad Reed proudly install the new pet station in Ewing Park.

“We figured if everyone was taking them off the trees during Christmas in the Park, they might want to be able to have a treat for their dogs after walks in the summer too,” Chad said.

The only request is that dog owners take one treat at a time to make sure there are enough to go around. Reed’s plans to refill the treat station weekly.

Cragle who is the Parks and Recreation Chairman for the borough said Reed’s is constantly stepping up to contribute to Ellwood City. He said Reed’s transports the lights for Christmas in the Park and that Chad joined the board. He even posed as Santa Claus one night when needed. Reed’s also provides support for other activities in the borough.

“They give back,” he said.

Caleb said the project was 100 percent the idea of Reed’s Services and he served as the liaison between the business and the borough—sharing sketches and plans. He said he is quite impressed with the station.

“It looks amazing,” Cragle said. “And it is getting great reception from the community.”

Chad said he appreciates the quick response from Councilman Cragle citing the project was proposed, initiated, and completed within a month. He added that supporting Ellwood City is a priority for his family-owned and run business.

“We love to give back to the people who support us,” Chad said. “There are not many towns like Ellwood anymore where people come together.”

While installing the station at the park, dog owners were already stopping by with their four-legged friends. Chad said three customers stopped by the station and were thrilled to see the new addition including Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy John Baldelli and his dog Baki. Baki and the Reed family are close friends as Reed’s donates the food to keep Baki running strong to fight crime.

“Please stop by and enjoy the station,” Chad said.
