PHOTOS: New Wooden Bridge Constructed In Ewing Park

In July, a new little attraction was added into Ewing Park – a cute little wooden bridge surrounded by hand painted rocks and some flowers.

The idea was born in the spring by the Director of Public Works, Randy Gatto. Gatto wanted to create a peaceful place for families to use as a memory maker. He hopes it’ll be used for family portraits or even for recently engaged couples to take pictures at. Since it’s placement, the little hands of Ellwood City have already gotten to work painting the rocks surrounding it.

According to Public Works Secretary Rhiannon Schnell, the area that the bridge was placed on was a “typically wet, marshy area and that the bridge was a simple solution to remedy it and add in a useful structure for the community to use.”

The small amount of funding it took to create the bride was taken from the Parks budget for the year. The project was entirely planned and executed by the Ellwood City Department of Public Works,

“The crews did an amazing job of turning an idea into a beautiful reality! We had several people donate plants to plant around the bridge (also),” said Schnell.

According to local community members, a couple already used the bridge as their place to tie the knot and plenty of people have already gathered to paint rocks and use the bridge as a nice, socially distant, gathering place. There aren’t any new projects in the works for the park, but Shelter #9 has received a new roof and the mulch in the park has been refreshed.

“It is our hope that the community will utilize the new bridge for momentous occasions and photos, as well as a gathering point to paint rocks and chat with friends,” commented Schnell. “We think it is pretty neat that in 20 years when our kids look back through photos, they will remember when the bridge was constructed and hopefully have a few fond memories created at the bridge to share with their kids!”
