Ellwood City Boys Cross Country Wins Tri-County Championship

The Ellwood City Varsity Boys Cross Country team collected a championship in the Tri-County meet over the weekend.

“My coaching staff and I are so proud of these bunch of young men they been working so hard all summer long it’s all paying off,” said head coach Mark Hall.

The boys team, 11-0 (10-0 Class 1A, Section-1), was led by Nolan Curran (3rd place, 16:45) and Marley Schweiger (5th place, 16:53) who each earned top-5 finishes.  Joe Cioffi (7th place, 17:45), Joel Brooks (11th place, 18:14), Nick Wise (13th place, 18:31), and Colton Crizer (14th palce, 18:31) rounded out the Wolverine runners.

“All the boys ran their best times of the season,” said Hall. “That’s where we need to be running our best at this time of the year.”

Up next for the boys team is a visit to the WPIAL Championships at White Oak Park in White Oak.  The meet will be held over two days on October 28-29.  California (Pa.) University, which had hosted the WPIAL Championships the last two years, has locked up its campus to events this fall because of COVID-19 and the WPIAL was forced to reschedule the venue to White Oak Park.
