Route 288 Wampum Road Bridge Closure Announced

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of the Wampum Road (Route 288) Bridge in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, will occur this weekend, Friday night through Monday morning, November 8 through November 11 weather permitting.

The Wampum Road Bridge will close to traffic from 7 p.m. Friday night continuously through 5 a.m. Monday morning to allow work to complete roadway tie-in for the new bridge. All traffic will be detoured.

North of the Bridge

  • Take Route 288 to Route 18 (Big Beaver Boulevard)
  • Turn left onto Route 588 (Eastvale/4th Street Bridge)
  • Turn left onto 2nd Avenue (Route 588)
  • Turn left onto Route 65 (Mercer Road)
  • Follow Route 65/288 to Fountain Avenue in Ellwood City
  • Turn left onto Fountain Avenue
  • Turn right onto 5th Street
  • Turn left onto Route 288 (Wampum Road)
  • Follow Route 288 back to the bridge
  • End detour

South of the Bridge

  • From Route 288 (Wampum Road), turn right onto 5th Street
  • Turn left onto Fountain Avenue
  • Turn right onto Second Street (Route 65/288)
  • Continue southbound on Route 65
  • Turn right onto Route 588 (Bennetts Run Road)
  • Cross the Eastvale/4th Street Bridge
  • Turn right onto northbound Route 18 (7th Avenue)
  • Turn right onto Route 288 (Main Street)
  • Follow Route 288 back to the bridge
  • End detour

Once the weekend closure ends, bi-directional traffic will be maintained on the new bridge into the spring of 2020. Additional lane restrictions will resume at that time to complete the project. Details will be provided in advance of the work.

This $8.22 million improvement project also includes paving, drainage upgrades, guiderail installation, pavement markings and other miscellaneous construction activities.  The Brayman Construction Corporation is the prime contractor.
