Tower Road Bridge Replacement Begins Monday in Perry Township

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing bridge replacement work on Tower Road (Route 2009) in Perry Township, Lawrence County, will begin Monday, April 4 weather permitting. Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of the Wampum Road (Route 288) Bridge in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, will occur this weekend, Friday night through Monday morning, November 8 through November 11 weather permitting. Route 288 Bridge Replacement Project Progress

With many focused on the pending status and re-opening of the Koppel Bridge, another local bridge replacement is taking place in Wayne Township and will have forthcoming lane restrictions and brief detour later this month. Construction crews are currently going through the demolition process of the former Koppel Bridge, removing the concrete deck and barrier, as part of the ongoing Koppel Bridge project that has forced the closure of the former Koppel Bridge, according to a PennDOT project manager this week. When reached for comment, a PennDOT project manager advised, “at this point, all is going very well with the project.” In addition to the demolition process, a retaining wall is being built for the roadways leading the new bridge. Koppel Bridge To Close In August

According to PA Department of Transportation officer Steve Cowan, a tentative closure date of the current 102-year-old Koppel Bridge is scheduled for August 13.  The closure is for 72 consecutive days. “During this time we will be constructing a retaining wall and doing approach roadway grading, drainage, paving, guide rail, line painting, any remaining bridge work, some demo to the old structure and planting/seeding work,” said Cowan in email.
