Lincoln High School Launching Another Educational Trip to Costa Rica

ELLWOOD CITY, PA – Lincoln High School will hold an informational meeting about an educational trip to Costa Rica scheduled in 2021 in the Lincoln Library on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 6:30 pm.

Ellwood Area School District teachers will be taking another highly popular trip to Costa Rica during June of 2021. Last summer, eleven students traveled to the world capital of ecotourism to explore all that the small Central American Country has to offer. Students were treated to local culture and cuisine, the Spanish language, then vast biodiversity of the area, sustainable agriculture techniques and their fair share of adventure.

“It is truly awe-inspiring to see students grow in such an exciting environment,” said Jason Bell, a Spanish teacher at Lincoln High School and the group leader. “To witness first-hand their curiosity and excitement grow as they participate in collaborative and life-changing experiences is why I’m committed to keep leading this program,” he continued.

“It really opened up my eyes to a whole different world,” said Caitlin Meehan (LHS Class of 2019). She remarked that the trip made her more confident heading into her freshman year at SRU. “I overcame some of my biggest fears [and]…it made me stronger as a person” she concluded.

This time, the trip will be even longer, lasting a total of 10 days. Over that time, participants will see the capital city of San José, La Fortuna Waterfall, El Arena Volcano, the Santa Elena Cloud Forest, Manuel Antonio National Park and much more. Travelers will get the chance to zipline over the jungle, go whitewater rafting, kayaking, visit a coffee plantation, and participate in local cultural exchanges. The trip is open to all current 9th, 10th and 11th grades at LHS; not just those enrolled in Spanish classes.

If interested, you are encouraged to attend an informational meeting in the Lincoln High School Library at 6:30 on October 2, 2019. During the meeting, group leaders will discuss the details of the itinerary, travel logistics, how to earn academic credit and ways to keep the tour affordable.
