RACE Swim Team Hosting Tryouts

RACE is looking to build a team for the 2019-2020 swim season and will be hosting tryouts on Monday at 5 p.m.

“Joining a swim team can give kids many benefits and be incredibly rewarding,” said Gwen Nulph, RACE coach. “It gives them the chance to be part of a team, build camaraderie, improve skills, get consistent physical activity, set and strive for goals, and have a lot of fun!”

What is RACE?  Riverside Aqua Club of Ellwood (RACE) was established with the purpose of teaching competitive swimming and developing teamwork. Its mission is to build and maintain a competitive swimming community by promoting sportsmanship and teamwork, teaching effective swimming techniques, and developing the work ethic and self-discipline that is necessary for success in swimming and all of the life’s endeavors.

Who is RACE for?  RACE offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the RACE to offer age specific training for all athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

When and where are tryouts?  Tryouts for the 2019-2020 swim season will be held on August 19th at 5 p.m. at the Riverside High School Pool.

What happens at tryouts?  Swimmers must demonstrate the ability to swim the length of the pool (on both their belly and back) and dive off the side of the pool.  This is also where the coach will assess which practice squad would be the best fit for the swimmer.

What ages can tryout?  Tryouts are open to all swimmers ages 5 and up.

Do you have to be a Riverside student to join RACE?  Absolutely not!!  RACE has many swimmers who attend surrounding school districts, including, but not limited to Riverside, Ellwood City, Beaver Falls, and Freedom school districts.
