Wolverines Notch A Comeback Victory Over Lancers

Ellwood City boys basketball team gained a come-from-behind victory against Neshannock 58-55 on Friday with the help of Steve Antuono, who scored game-high 27 points.

After trailing 36-32 after three quarters, and by as many as six points in several occasions in the fourth quarter, the Wolverines clawed back to victory, scoring the last seven points of the contest.

Antuono buried a 3-pointer, part of his 11-point fourth quarter output, that gave the Wolverines the late lead in the high scoring final frame.  Senior Broc Boariu sank two free throws late the ice the game.

With a shooting percentage of 70% (7-for-10), Antuono had a great game from the field, also making 50% (3-for-6) of threes attempted. He was also strong from the line, sinking 83% (10-for-12) of free throws attempted.

Boariu (20 points) matched Antuono with 11 points in the fourth quarter, including three 3-pointers for the victors.  Boariu was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up nine rebounds and three steals.

Ryan Gibbons also put up 4 points, two rebounds and one steal. Rick Pitrelli (6 points) also had multiple three-pointers. Milo Sesti contributed with seven assists.

Ellwood City finished the game with 24 rebounds (9 offensive / 15 defensive), one block and seven steals.

Ellwood City next travels to Riverside on Tuesday night for a clash with the rival Panthers.  Varsity tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.  Riverside is on the heels of a 69-43 road defeat at the hands of Beaver Falls on Friday. Nathan Sciarro (14 points) and Brian Macmurdo (10 points) reached double figures for the Panthers
